I don't see "fetal stem cells" anywhere in this article. Good thing US federal dollars weren't spent on it, as it may have diverted research from something that could actually cure illness.Huettler's patient was under treatment at Charite for both AIDS and leukemia, which developed unrelated to HIV.
As Huettler _ who is a hematologist, not an HIV specialist _ prepared to treat the patient's leukemia with a bone marrow transplant, he recalled that some people carry a genetic mutation that seems to make them resistant to HIV infection. If the mutation, called Delta 32, is inherited from both parents, it prevents HIV from attaching itself to cells by blocking CCR5, a receptor that acts as a kind of gateway.
"I read it in 1996, coincidentally," Huettler told reporters at the medical school. "I remembered it and thought it might work."

How right you are. Wow science is going to prevail for at least the next 4 years! Ya-mutherfucking-hoo!Its a good thing private sources were available for the stem cell research, otherwise valuable years could have been lost by the silly bans.
Its a good thing we have a new administration in that will base the research dollars on need rather than on superstitions.
You mean we need to divert limited resources towards activities that have showed no promise. Its a good thing private sources were available for the stem cell research, otherwise valuable years could have been lost by the silly bans.

You mean non-straight people are at fault? That would mean that they chose their behavior, right? You best expect a call from the PC Police. You do realise straight people who are not at fault for being infected can possibly be cured also right?

No, that is not what she meant at all. Just because the straight person who contracted AIDs is not at fault does not mean that the fault lies with someone who isn't straight.
Sometimes medical procedures spread it. Sometimes accidents spread it. And sometimes tracing the origins of the exposure are impossible.
But thanks for playing along so well.
Research into Adult Stem Cells is awesome...
And why don't we use Umbilical stem cells?
Because they can come from live babies, and we can't have that in our society...
We donated our child's umbilical cord so that they could use the umbilical stem cells for research. It didn't even take killing the child...Because they can come from live babies, and we can't have that in our society...

All I know is the urban legend about the guy who brought it from Africa (perhaps contracted from Monkey's, they say) and then hit the gay bars and bath houses...
