College Football season is almost here!

I'm not a football fan at all except for exceptional situations.

In the Doug Flutie era [early 1980s] I watched lots of Boston College football.

In the two decade Tom Brady era, I watched all of the Patriots games.

Those were very special, though.
Otherwise, I avoid football because it looks like quadriplegia waiting to happen.

I grew up in the much safer sport of boxing. We only got our brains scrambled and our retinas detached. Wholesome fun.

I'm ready for some football!! Here are the Top 25 polls from AP and the Coaches poll.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings

Both polls have Alabama at #1. AP has Oklahoma at #2 and the Coaches poll has Clemson at #2.

Both polls have Ohio State at #4, Georgia at #5 and Texas A&M at #6.

What do you think about the polls?

As much as I hate to say it, I think this may be UGA’s year. I think they’ve got the fewest questions to answer. We will find out in week 1. I’m not sure that I buy the A&M hype but they’re the closest competition to Bama in the west.

Georgia is loaded, that is for sure. As for Texas A&M, they made the mistake of talking trash. That will fire up Alabama.

Lol Saban’s response to what Fisher said was priceless.

What are your thoughts on the NIL stuff and this new “alliance” that has come out recently? I think NIL was the right thing to do but I’m not sure what effect it’s going to have on the field, mainly in that it could become a huge distraction if not managed properly by the coaches.

The new alliance seems like a bunch of sour grapes and conferences that have only one relevant team in them are trying to shift the tides. I don’t see it having a direct competitive impact but I don’t care for the idea of those conferences being allied and then being on selection and rules committees.

Did you see Saban's response to being told Oregon has 100 different uniform combinations?

I thought about it and wanted to come back to this. Georgia is loaded. And Georgia wants to beat Bama so bad. They have lost some heartbreakers to the Crimson Tide in recent years. From Tua manipulating the defense and throwing a 40+ yard absolute dart on 2nd and 26 to Jalen Hurts putting the team on his back and beating them for the SEC Championship. And even the SEC Championship in 2013 when it was such a tight game, and the winner would play Notre Dame for the BCS Championship. (I think the world knows the BCS Championship was played between GA and AL, because either team would destroy the Irish)

I'm usually not one to gloat, but the 2020 Crimson Tide was amazing.

Beating 11 of the 12 SEC teams, then destroying Notre Dame and Ohio State was the perfect season!
I've no problem with team pride...;) Let's Go Bucks!!! Polls, Schmolls....lol

My boy is officially a Sooner. Math major. He’s enjoying himself on campus. I’m just hoping the Sooners live up to the hype. If they do he’ll have a fun year.

I think, if Alabama doesn't win the championship, it will be because OU won it. They do look tough.

Not sure what to expect from LSU. In 2019 they were one of the best teams to play the game. In 2020 they went 5-5.
I hear ya. But they have been consistently in the top six in recruiting the last 3 years. 'Bama, Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU, Ohio State and Clemson show up again and again.
Their QB who was the heir to Burrow was hurt and they farted around w/ true freshman T.J. Finley (who transferred to Auburn) before they found a gem in true freshman Max Johnson. Their receiver who won the Bilitnikof award as a soph. sat out last yr. (can't blame him). The entire O line returns. I wouldn't count LSU out.

Oklahoma sure doesn’t look like a #2 with that defense so far. Tulanes not bad but they’re having no problem with OUs defense

After Hurricane Ida, Tulane was invited to use the Alabama practice facilities. Maybe a little bit of St. Nick rubbed off!
