I heard a female member of the Danish parliament interviewed today, and learned some interesting factoids.

Denmark

Progressive tax system, top marginal rate on the wealth tops out at around 55%.

Every single citizen gets free, excellent, tax-payer financed healthcare. No deductibles, no co-pays. No denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions.

Every person in Denmark, regardless of income gets free or subsidized permanent full time day care for their kids. Staffed by highly qualified and competent day care workers. Even the rich use it. For the extremely poor its practically free.

Drugs are treated as a healthcare problem. Not a crime. Danish police aren't wasting their time chasing after dope smokers and crack heads. Drug abusers can go to clinics and get free needles, as well as education and treatment.


And for some strange reason, the country isn't collapsing under the weight of inefficient, horrific socialism.
 
Give em time, God just has not gotten around to punishing them yet. The republicans have been keeping him too busy lately.
 
Actually the Liberal party (Denmark's conservative party) got elected a while back and have been pushing a lot of free market reforms.

But the difference between a Eurpoean conservative liberal party, and an American conservative liberal party, is that they don't see the a welfare state as the worst thing about government.

God hates universal healthcare? Did Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, or John McCain say that?

I should have proposed to that Danish girlfriend I had in grad school. I could be living the good life in Copenhagen, and shooting up heroin without fear of arrest by now.

I'm not sure they have the coffee shops in Denmark, are you not thinking of Holland? (although you won't be prosecuted for possession there)
 
The image of topsy at any sort of liberal march, talking about his investments & how much more money he has than anyone there, is weird, and kind of funny to think about....
 
1) Their healthcare isn't free, they pay for it with higher taxes

2) Anyone notice the second paragraph's irony? Some get childcare for free, but the extremely poor get it "practically free"????? If anyone gets it free shouldn't the extremely poor be the ones to do so?

3) Attempting to compare Denmark, where the vast majority of its population is in urbanized city centers and the country is a whole is about the size of Maine, to the US is a bit of a stretch. Especially when you consider that their population is about what 6-7 million? and NOT growing much over the past few decades?
 
I'm hesitant to trust anything wikipedia says because it is so full of falsehoods but if you believe it...

I would have never guessed Top thought about Onceler that way.

But we all know what it means when you start putting someone in roles like that. Next thing you know, you are imagining what you’d be wearing when Onceler comes to your door.

It’d be hot. If you know, it wasn’t coming from Topper.
