How much do you agree with this statement? “You have a certain amount of intelligence, and you can’t really do much to change it.”


If you think you can’t change much, then you lean toward a “fixed” mind-set. People with a fixed mind-set often limit themselves to situations where they feel confident, and they may feel insecure when those around them are successful.

A “growth” mind-set reflects a belief that people can change, basic intelligence is mutable and new skills can be learned with effort. People with a growth mind-set tend to thrive on feedback and are inspired by the success of others.

You can’t change your intelligence level but you can increase your knowledge and skill sets or how smart you are

To change intelligence levels would require some sort of genetic manipulation
 
I think you have your level of intellect set as a combination of genetics and early childhood development. By the time you reach your teens you can't really change your level of intelligence anymore.
On the other hand, you can learn new stuff and skills for most of your lifetime limited only by intellect. That is, you can learn stuff and skills that your level of intelligence is capable of dealing with. This is why not everyone, and looking at it historically, only about a third of the population are capable of college level classwork. Not everyone is cut out to do skilled handwork either. So, in that sense, there are multiple intelligences and skill sets and few possess most or all of those.

I agree with that statement, what I disagree with is the way you're portraying intelligence.
 
there are those who never used the intelligence they were born with......there is no other explanation for Demmycrats......so it isn't a factor of what you add......its like saying your EV has enough power to last you weeks when you never drive it.....

I've said it before. With the Left you can't find that level of stupid in nature, it kills itself off. Stupid that massive requires years of diligent study in a sheltered environment--a university--to achieve.

Well I'm not a leftist so I'm of the growth mindset. We know leftists are of the fixed mind set. I say that because we see how leftists behave when black people no longer want to stay on the leftist plantation. The leader of the leftists even says you arent black if you don't support him which suggest black people must have a fixed mind set (leftism) otherwise they cease to be black. It's sad to see leftists with such a fixed short sighted view of the world.

A good example of the fixed thinking of the Left is on economics. They see the pot of wealth as fixed in size. That is, the rich have so much of that pot, the poor have some smaller, fixed amount of it. For the Left, the only way to redress this inequity in wealth is to take from one and give to the other. There is no thinking that the poor can potentially grow their own wealth and become rich while not doing anything to the existing pool of rich people.

That brings up a second point. The Left sees the poor as unable, incapable, and incompetent to be able to grow their wealth on their own. They need the assistance of government. Without government intervention--Leftist government of course--the poor will remain poor always.

Of course, that thinking only ensures the poor stay poor while the rich do everything they can to evade being made poor themselves at the hands of the Left who want to confiscate their wealth.

Yes leftists don't want to make poor people more rich they want to make rich people more poor. They also think the pool of wealthy people is static. They either dont know or dont care that some wealthy people were once poor and some poor people were once wealthy. Thomas Sowell nailed it he calls them first level thinkers. Rigid and simple.

I am not sure if there is something like genetic intelligence. It is mostly effort and persistence.
