I didn't see a thread on this.

I guess if you are big enough then you cannot fail, regardless of the financial disastor you produce.

$85 billion in a loan to the monster insurer. Nice that they spend our money so wisely.

Must be nice. Still to this day--I have never seen an insurance company go out of business. I wonder if insurance premims would have dropped a bit if they were allowed to fail? :dunno:

Welfare, welfare, welfare--our economy depends on it?

If they're using taxpayer money to bail out AIG, do we all get free insurance?

This bailing out of failing businesses is starting to piss me off.

Well, the Democrat Party to the rescue.... more like, the Taxpayers to the rescue... Can someone on the side of the Jackasses explain to me, what exactly is the criteria for Government bailout? One day, we see them refuse to save Lehman, the next day they are writing a check to AIG! WTF? Is this part of the Socialist Utopia? Democrat Big Brother gets to pick and choose who they like or don't like, and who will get help and who won't?

I personally deplore government bail outs. Unless it is an extenuating circumstance, like the airlines after 9/11, who were suffering through no fault of their own, I don't think government should get involved. Commercial enterprises have to deal with their own finances every day, without the safety net of government there to save them. If they can't make it, they can't make it... maybe because of incompetent management, maybe because of consumer disinterest, maybe because of economics. The question isn't why they went under, the taxpayer shouldn't be obligated to subsidize them.

AIG is an insurance company, they are in competition with many other insurance companies, and they have paid millions of dollars on commercials, advertising lower rates than the others, luring business to their company. Maybe they should have raised their premiums, maybe they should have run fewer commercials, as a taxpayer, it shouldn't be my problem to deal with. For whatever reason, they couldn't remain solvent, and that is not my fault, why do I have to pay for it?

Still, our lovely Democrat Congress feels compelled to sit on their throne in Washington and decide the fate of corporations, thumbs down for Lehman, thumbs up for AIG. What is the criteria? Maybe AIG customers are mostly Democrats? Maybe the AIG executives are big Democrat contributors? Maybe Lehman's execs didn't grease the right Democrat palms? Maybe the customers of Lehman are seen as "rich" to the elites in Washington? I don't know the answer, we aren't told why, even though it is our money being spent!

The clueless wonder strikes again!

Suddenly, the "Democrat Congress" is both the Secretary of the Treasury and the Chairman of the FED.

It is McCains fault that these institutes failed, whenever he passed legislation that eliminated the lines between banking, investment, and insurance.

What a fucking idiot, the Democrats? WOW... you just droped another notch.

LMAO... seriously man... you are like Gumby... blaming everything on the left regardless of fact just as he does with the right.

This was a decision by Paulson... a Republican....

If you don't understand the difference on why AIG and not Lehman.... look to their balance sheets. Then come back and bitch.

I hate that they had to provide this loan, but they did. They could not let AIG go down.

I agree, its terrable that they deregulated such that AIG got into this position, but now that they are in this position, we cant let them go under. All we can do is let them unwind, which is what they are doing. The govt is providing a soft landing for what was AIG. The parts will get sold off and mostly merged or shut down in an orderly fashon.

LOL... Yeah, sure, the Democrat Congress didn't have one damn thing to do with spending $85 billion taxpayer dollars, it was the sole decision of 2 republicans. Democrats can effectively stonewall anything Republicans try to do, but are suddenly powerless when it comes to government bailouts!

You people are the stupid idiots... YES, Paulsen and Beranke authorized the bailout, WITH THE BLESSINGS OF THE DEMOCRAT CONGRESS!

Bailout of corporations after bailout and there is NOTHING the American people can do about it.

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
