A Russian wife turned to her husband and asked, "What's this special military operation our glorious leader keeps talking about?" Her husband replied, "It's a war to stop America and NATO." "Oh, right” she says “How's it going?"

“Well” he replied “so far we have lost over 20 generals, 110,000 troops killed, countless injured, 3000 tanks, 300 aircraft, hundreds of helicopters, countless armoured vehicles, artillery and trucks, our flagship along with other naval ships, our army is being defeated in most areas and we have had to resort to conscription to replace our losses”.

“Wow” replied the wife “what about America and NATO”?

“They haven’t turned up yet”
 
Its not that the Russians are so smart, though they are smart and diligent.....it is mostly that Washington is run by children who have no idea what they are doing, and they are not interested in learning.

The other thing is that Russia and China are effectively one country now, and the Han are on a multi decade project to bring about a new flowering of the Chinese Empire, and they are also smart and very hard working....with long memories.

Russia has committed less than 10% of their military forces to the war.

Ukraine has 100% of everything committed

It’s a war of attrition which they are losing bigly
 
The Russians are persistent. They will keep fighting regardless of losses and grind their opponent down until he surrenders.

The Ukrainians are running out of trained soldiers, the Russians are not....the only way the West can keep this war going is sending their own citizens into the meat grinder.

Unlike MAGAs, Ukranians are willing to die to protect their homes and country.

It is an utterly foreign concept to MAGAs.

Russians for the most part are not rushing to military recruitment offices to volunteer to serve on the the front lines in Ukraine.

That's why convicts from Russian prisons or impoverished Buryats desperate for a paycheck are on the front lines.

It is extraordinary that 18 months after a world military superpower invaded a second rate European nation, Putin only controls about 16 to 18 percent of Ukraine; a sliver of land along the shores of the Sea of Azov.

It’s not who’s more willing to die, both sides have high casualties, it’s a numbers game. Russia has far more troops than Ukraine does.

The reason the war is taking so long is because Putin is in no rush. If he had gone in there at full military strength it may have prompted western forces to send in their own troops and even more military aid.

Putin probably doesn’t care if this takes years because the outcome is a forgone conclusion so he is simply letting the Ukranians expend all their resources until they decide to capitulate.

The world at this point is becoming bored with the war and the aid for Ukraine is drying up. Any supplies they do receive from the west are destroyed relatively quickly.

Another interesting aspect is that Ukraine hasn’t even faced off against Russia’s main army yet, this whole time they’ve only been fighting screening forces.

There is no way Ukraine can win this without serious support from western nations and nobody wants to risk a nuclear war with Russia over this conflict.

If Putin wanted to put Russia on a total war footing, he would have done it by now.

This war is 18 months old, and the Russians were soundly defeated and driven back in the pivotal battles for Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson.

Putin is afraid of mass mobilization because of the risk it will create instability in Russian society.
