Under Andrew Jackson the United States Federal Government was free of debt for the first, and only, time in history.

Yes, only once.

The last time the National Debt went down was in 1961, despite Clinton's "surplus".

But there have been many times in US history that the national debt was very low. Also, Andrew Jacsons term was a success in pretty much no other measure besides obnoxiousness and injun killin.

that says it all

and obnoxiousness....you're not turning into a hack that "jokes" about their political beliefs all the time and passes them off as "real" ......are you...

But?

Debt isn't evil, my friend. It's just a tool that conservatives like to abuse.

Republicans are not conservatives by definition.

A better way to say it would be that its a tool liberals and political parties love to abuse.

Was that before the Jackson Purchase or after?
Before the Jackson purchase? It was after. He had paid off the debt and we were debt free when he left office... what caused it to go up again was a recession that began just after he left office in 1837.

Which happened because he shut down the national bank. Again, I really think Andrew Jackson was one of the failingest presidents of all time.

Historical trivia?

You call that historical trivia? This is historical trivia.

Since Tsar Alexander III, in the 1880's, every Russian leader has alternated between being bald and hairy. For example, in recent years we've had :-
Gorby - bald.
Yetsin - hairy.
Putin - bald.
Medvedev - hairy.

So put your money on the next one being a baldy, possibly a return of the house elf himself.

You don't get this good shit from fecking Suetonius do you?

We had two different national banks at the beginning of the US. Now we have the federal reserve, which has the same concept.

Same concept! Yes, indeed! The concept is THE SAME!*

*Concept, implementation, power, enactment, control, oversight, ownership, monetary standard, and results not the same.

The national banks failed twice, causing not saving the US from recession. The Federal Reserve is not a national bank, and not the same thing either, it is a whole new concept of control. Nor does it save us from recession.

Time to shave the head and move to Russia.

So, how'd he manage it?

Seriously, he 'interpreted' the Constitution; ignored the SCOTUS interpretation. He made his own law.

Jackson was one of the best and worst of American presidents. As were Jefferson, Lincoln, and Nixon. (Perhaps Clinton and Bush II also).
