The national banks had their charter revoked twice. Neither one of them ever failed.
The charter was not revoked, it was simply not re-constituted. Centralizing all of the economy under the auspices of one bank was detrimental to the interest of the US. It's one of the reasons that there is more than one bank in the Reserve.
 
Jackson was a horrible president who did more than any other president to contribute to a recession. And the 1st National Bank was a very successful entity, the Fed sucks compared to it, although the 2nd Bank was infested with corruption and cronyism (well, it was set up by a Jeffersonian rather than a Federalist, so what do you expect).
