How does your states unemployment insurance stack up?

France is an interesting place. Everyone there sees that state as the savior. The conservatives love it just as much as the socialists. Sarkovsky is as close as they've come to a free market president since the 70's.

And most employers would rather not make their contributions to unemployment insurance.
I really had to rearrange my way of thinking when I thought of employer contributions to anything.
There is a cost per any employee as you know. The only reason an employer pays that is that they are looking to profit on your labor. So HOW they pay, be it in the form of pure salary like a contractor or a mix of less salary, but with benefits and government benefits (like UI), they don't really care, so long as that is what you in the labor market will bear and they still make a profit off you.
Thus, saying the employer pays for your UI isn't really the correct picture, as were there no UI benefits to pay, then they would just pay you a higher salary (like the contractor).
So it's likely employers be forced (by the market) to offer more pay should they not pay UI benefits.

Its partly about your individual need, and partly about contributing to the society you live in.
And given a choice, most people will not contribute whether they are at risk of unemployment or not. A quick look at the credit crisis is ample evidence of that.
And is it government's job to protect people from themselves? Reagan once said himself that government's role is to protect us from the threat of others and that we cannot afford the government it would take to protect us from ourselves.
With over $10 trillion in debt now, we are fast proving him right.

Let it be optional please and help shift us back to our roots of a people with more self-responsibility.

Dano, if you made unemployment insurance optional the wealthy people with job security would opt out and the poor would be left paying it, which most would choose not to do because the prices would become so outrageous.

Keep unemployment insurance mandatory and make it pay at least 75% of previous wages for a year.

Why would the poor pay for something few of them would ever use? You don't really think anymore now that you are a lefty...

Yeah but I hate dano.

I typically hate social conservatives a lot more than fiscal ones, but when they get as dogmatic as Dano...
You base your political positions on emotion. I had come up with a theory in the last few months with your shift to the left that you were getting back at me for rejecting you and calling you out for the pretend no-nothing Libertarian you were and for discussing it with RString and I think you are validating that.

A large part of what drives you in the negative is you are after revenge, revenge on Libertarians who rejected you, revenge on the Southern culture you hate so much and contrarywise what drives you in the positive is your feeelings of idolatry for figureheads that you seem to need (ie: Krugman, George Will, RString, etc...)

You are just as emotional as it possible to get (well at least for a guy ;) ) so it's not really possible to reason with you anymore.

Psychowned.

Dano, please stop trying to psychoanalyze me. Thankyou.

It's interesting that people spent four pages arguing about unemployment insurance with this guy, as if, here in the real world, unemployment insurance and benefits will ever be done away with.
