Who is this Talifari person? Nouri Al-Maliki suceeded Jaafaari as Prime minister who from what I see was pressured internally to step down even by Ayatollah Sistani.

Talabani is the President of Iraq. Al Jaafari was the Prime Minister.

Al Jaafari was removed as Prime Minister in favor of Maliki not Talabani.

Also the office of President in Iraq is not that powerful and is more ceremonial. Much more power lies with the Prime Minister.
