Is 2016 the last chance for the white, aging GOP base?

Many of his supporters, like Trump himself, find facts irrelevant.

Despite evidence to the contrary, for example, nearly 75 percent of Trump supporters — compared with 57 percent of those who support other Republican candidates — believe discrimination against whites, and white men in particular, is as big a problem as discrimination against blacks and other minorities.

The white working class — those without a four-year degree — has been on the decline for decades.

Princeton economists recently released a disturbing report that found the death rate of working-class, middle-aged American whites is rising, while that of all other Americans is dropping.

The number of deaths by suicide, alcohol use and drug use among working-class whites ages 45 to 54 has increased so much since 1999 it has increased the overall death rate for this group by 22 percent.

It's not unusual for people concerned about scarcity to look for others to blame.

Immigrants are an easy scapegoat.
