Jasmine Crockett says immigrants can't leave because "we done picking cotton"

The average income per person who does farm picking is $32K per year. Usually it is a husband and wife pair, who work 8-12 weeks a year, to earn combined around $70K per year, and qualify for all kinds of special government programs while not working. That is a very good income, everywhere but California.

Generally, if they have kids, some relative will care for them during the time that the parents are working.

Yes, they generally work hard 12 Hour Days, seven days a week, during the harvest. But, the rest of the year, their time is their own.

The farmers and orchards of America hire roughly 280,000 such people annually. There have been waiting lists to be added to the hiring rolls for decades, but those with experience are hired first. ALL of those hired have work permits or much more commonly, they are U.S. Citizens, and have been for decades.

The Lefties are always claiming that fruit picking is work that Americans will not do. Bull! I picked fruit as a teen, so did every White Guy I knew.

Many of those recurrently hired to pick fruit and veggies are foreign born, but most of them are also Americans.

Cesar Chavez was an American. He was against Illegal Immigration.

He was all for legal immigration. He several times expressed distaste for any form of "Racial Preference". He fought for good wages, fair treatment, and programs to aid migrant workers, when not be employed as such.

I think he would have like me, I too was a teen farm worker.

I never picked cotton, but I did pick prickly pair cactus fruit.
