John Edwards Caught With Mistress

Thanks for the advice, Mottleydude, I'll bear it in mind. If I offend Dixie, then at least I'll be able to produce my membership card of the Party of European Socialists as evidence that I am indeed a "die hard commie pinko liberal."

Just another note, by the way, I laughed out loud at your used-car salesman analogy. Very good, indeed. Your comment about Europeans not understanding why Americans look to their political leaders as moral authorities is right on the button. If a politician starts talking sexual morality or family values then, IMHO, that's the time to take out the pitchfork and torches and have us a bonfire.

Well, that's true.

And that is a perfect opening for what I wanted to bring to Superfreak's attention, thank you!

SF, this puts me in mind of McCain's statement over the weekend that he wanted to "help with family values". Leading one liberal blogger to wail "but I don't wanna leave my wife for a drug-addicted beer heiress".

Sf, I cannot help but note how selective you are in your moral condemnations. Only a pure moron could know the fact that John McCain married Cindy one month after his divorce was final, and not realize that he was giving it to her every chance he got behind his crippled wife's back.

Did you know that Nancy and Ronald Reagan refused to speak to John McCain for years, on account of how he treated his crippled, first wife, by running around on him until he met Cindy, who liked what he gave her so much, she bought him?

What's the problem Sf? Cat got your tongue? Or, is it that because John "I get around" McCain is a Republican that his despicable behavior is Okay?

LOL. Therein lies the rub Water, you are right. Even FDR, the greatest president of the past hundred years, had a mistress. I know. Maybe as women take more and more powerful seats, and they eventually have affairs with men much younger than their balding overweight, and comparatively powerless husbands, and further humiliate them by pressuring them, while in a state of shock, to stand by them and smile sickly at press conferences, this will all be easier to swallow

As it stands, there is no free pass for a "rich and powerful" man not to have some goddamned decency. You know, monogamy is a bitch, over the long haul. For everyone. Not just men. They are the only ones who are excused though.

FDR the "greatest of the past hundred years"???? Mr Internment camps? Mr. Depend on the government so we can control every aspect of your life? Mr. Warmonger and thus by your definition Mr. Baby Killer? HE was the greatest huh?

LMAO....

:pke:

Side note... with whom did Reagan cheat on Nancy? and Ike? Who was his mistress?

I don't think that Reagan did cheat on his second wife, Nancy. Don't know about the first wife. As for Eisenhower, are you joking SF? Surely you know the kind of compelling story of him and his driver, Kate Sumersby?

I'm sure this is yet another oversight on your part but - Harry Truman also did not have a mistress.

Actually, I had no idea whether Reagan or Ike did. I was pretty sure Reagan didn't. I did not know about Ike. Hell I didn't even know about the warmonger FDR.

As for Truman... good midwestern boy... but no, I did not know whether or not he did either. Don't really care....

But the baby killer FDR... yeah... great one there.

Ike was the best President of the last century. Not Mr. Internment camps.

This is some funny shit Darla.

Do you even need to ask a rhetorical question? It's a message board classic: the "independent" conservative who spends their time complaining about Democrats behaviour, while excusing the exact same behavior from republicans.

Wasn't it only three months ago, when repukes were openly dismissing the NY Times report that McCain had an affair with a lobbyist? And I think I've heard nothing but silence from repukes about McCain's history of infidelity, or about him divorcing his wife after she was disfigured in a car accident.

So, I think we can laugh off the statements about voting based on "morality". Its just partisan hackery.

Ike was the best Republican president. Not president.

How is it that you can tell so easily that a man wants to fuck someone just by looking at a picture of them together? He told her he would divorce his wife and marry her as soon as the war was over, but he seems to have forgotten...

No, I do not give him a pass on it. Yes, he cheated on his first wife. I am well aware of that. According to Carol, he was changed from his POW experience, wanted to relive his youth, was more irresponisible and yes, I would imagine that her accident and change was a part of that. But it was also 30 years ago. So while I do not give him a pass on it, it doesn't have as much relevance as it would should it occur again today.

and yes... I am giving Edwards crap, because I cannot stand him.... that and I know how much some on the left on this board liked him. :D

Oh, no - you've got it all wrong. SF isn't a "Republican"; he's as independent as they come. Why, it's going to take everything he's got to pull the lever for the old, short guy this fall...but he HAS to, you see, because the Democrats simply refuse to give him a viable alternative to one warmongering candidate after another.

It's not his fault; it's out of his hands....

Not so sure of that. His mistress is Candy McCain :)

anyway Damo I guess that innocent till proven guilty only works for Republicans ?
It never has applied to Rs when stories like this are published about them so why should I be the one to begin that?

LMAO.... poor little emo....

This one wasn't even close. I wanted McCain in 2000. Which is why as soon as he got the nomination I stated who I was voting for. This has nothing to do with Obamas qualifications. I believe Obama is by far the best the Dems have put up in my lifetime. As I have stated, while I oppose some of his policies, I do think Obama would be a good President. I simply believe McCain is better.

Don't worry about offending Dixie. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. It just means your a full fledged member of the board.

As for American puritanism? It goes back to the beginnings of our nation. As a nation of immigrants most came here seeking religious freedom, political freedom or were criminals/prisoners. In my ancestors case it was all 3 as 5 brothers immigrated here from Ireland, during the potato famine where upon, family legend has it, one was hanged for being a horse theif.

Point being the dichotomy of religeous puritanicalims and politcal radicalism are deeply ingrained in the American character from the very begining of our nation. Long before our present Republic was established.

My family actually hails from Ireland too, albeit from Ulster. And we were kicked out in the 1600's, unlike most families who came over during the great famine. Which is why I ended up in the south. My family was an extremely rich slave-owning family until the civil war, then we became poor and never quite recovered (not that I'm bemoaning that, my ancestors actions were atrocious and they quite well deserved it). I'm literally a generation removed from white trash.

Imagine if all the rogues had come over from Europe, and the puritans had just stayed at home.

If I had to bet I'd say its mostly true. I don't know about the child, but if you told me I had to bet $100, I'd go with Edwards was cheating.

But who knows what kind of arrangement he had with his wife. Its pretty low when someone cheats on their spouse to begin with, its dispicable when they are going through an illness like cancer, and I will think Edwards is complete trash if he makes her give one of those, "I'm going to stand by my man speeches".

Cheating pretty much goes with the type a ego's that get into politics anyway.

Now the gay shenanagans of the anti gay right wingers is another matter.

We would be Austraila
