Marxism, Communism, Capitalism and historical lessons

It isn't an "all-or-nothing" proposition. Too much government is as bad, or worse, than no government. Finding the correct balance is difficult, and the fact that government is bureaucratic by nature makes it tend towards becoming too much government.

Some socialism is good for a society so long as it is tightly controlled in scope and expense. It is better for the market to run most things than let the government do it.

For example, there is no real reason we should have universal government run healthcare. If healthcare were in a free market, it would be much cheaper than it is now. The problem is, at least in the US, that government got involved in that market and fucked the price of everything up as a result. That's one example of too much government in the market.

If healthcare were run in the free market...it probably would be three or four times as expensive...and not as comprehensive.

Government is fine. If you want less...you can easily get it. But you won't...and we both know that, TA.

The rap against government is killing our country. It should stop.

You are wrong. With government running all healthcare it will become like it is in the military today. While you haven't experienced that, I have. Wait times are ridiculous. The care level is anywhere from indifferent to good. The only part of it that really works is emergency care for serious injuries.

The free market version would vary in cost. Common procedures and routine care would be ridiculously cheap. Specialist care could get expensive. Simple supply and demand. There have been companies that do nothing but MRI's or CAT scans for as little as a few hundred dollars. That's super cheap.

That's why I've long advocated for a free market evolved off our current system for routine health care coupled to a national plan for catastrophic coverage (eg., insurance). It won't happen because the vested interests and bureaucracy have every desire to keep the current system in place. Yes, I actually have thought this through.

I served...and was tended to by Military doctors. Not much wrong with me in those days...but any attention I needed was fine. I got cancer at age 60...and used the VA. They treated me...and now I am 87 and still running like a new car. I've used the VA for eyes and hearing...and my care was not appreciably worse than care I've received normally through hospitals and doctors elsewhere.

I think you have an idea that government is bad and inefficient. And you are going to go with that no matter what.

I think you are dead wrong...and I think government should compete with private enterprise in many areas. We can let the consumers decide if they would prefer to use government vendors or private vendors. My guess is that EVERYTHING would be much less expensive with government. Private enterprise is mostly to make a few individuals richer and richer.

And the suckers continue to suppose that is their right...and see nothing wrong with it.
