Need to raise gas taxes

Gas taxes are to repir and maintain roads right ?
Well in 2 years asphalt has gone from $184/ton to $475/ton.

Gasoline taxes should be based on a percentage of the price rather than a fixed cents per gallon. so that as the cost of oil goes up the funds to keep our highways going rises too instead fo dropping with dropping demand.

Painful I know but how else will it work ?

How about cut spending in other areas, has that ever crossed your mind?

I am partial to targeted taxes. Gas taxes for roads, School taxes for Schools, Library Tax for library, etc...

You should kindly remind the morons in Olympia, WA what great sense that is. Once upon a time WA separated its taxes into funds for what they were intended to pay for (such as the WA Lottery, which was supposed to go to education, and bridge tolls, to pay for their construction). Now it has a gigantic black hole called the General Fund, which has gotten us into serious trouble, and of course neither the loons running the Lotto nor anyone else will release the information out allocations and so forth...

All separating it into funds does is rob you of any sort of flexibility. There's no reason a certain tax should ONLY go into one area.

There is a great reason certain taxes should be limited to certain expenses. It does a lot in limiting spending on nefarious pet projects and other pork. When a specific type of expense is met by a specific revenue source, it is easier to adjust according to need, and less likely to result in deficits.

Single subject bills do a lot more in limiting pork.
