Obama's healthcare plan: why we should support it

I am interested in why, specifically, do dems support this plan....

i've heard from various dems on this board that no one really knows what obama's plan is as he has multiple plans...if that is the case...why harp on republicans...

additionally, some feel that we should not be given access to the text before hand as it will only result in people mis quoting the bill and causing confusion....as to this, how can this be justified...we should just be confused after the bill becomes law?

if you support obama's plan, here is your chance to convince us....the floor is yours....

Seriously, to win the right over, Obama's got to reduce costs as well as provide universal coverage. If it just provides universal coverage, or the right portrays it as doing nothing but providing universal coverage, it will fail.

So I'll do my homework on this and see if I can come up with a coherent explanation for what you can expect.

Not only are there not multiple "Obama plans," there is not even a single "Obama plan." There are basically two or three competing plans right now. HR 3200 wending its way through the House and is the bill that will in all likelihood (if any bill will) come out of the House.

In the Senate, there are essentially two competing plans, one coming out of the Senate HELP Committee and one coming out of the Senate Finance Committee. The Senate HELP Committee approved its version of the Affordable Health Choices Act (that's the short title of HR 3200) and the Finance Committee hasn't put out it's bill yet.

Obama has simply stated what the various things he wants in whatever bill crosses his desk but he doesn't have any actual plan.

watermark said there are about 5.....and i believe everything watermark says....i set my calendar to it

so......if the dems do not have any actual plan....why are they pointing the fingers at repubs?

Obama's letting congress write this; because of Clinton's bad experience in 1992 when he essentially wrote the bill himself.

Obama wants to remove profit. He's a socialist when even china is ditching it. Kill profits and innovation is over. Dems are boarderline retarded on economics.

The Dems have several actual plans, two or three that are being seriously considered, but there is no "Obama plan."

Obama told them to support it. They have to follow orders from their messiah. I would say most of them don't have a clue what's in it.

Ok, fine.

So, tell us why we should support the DEMOCRATIC plans that are being considered.

Please include as much detail from the actual bill(s) as possible. Supporting ideals of equal, quality health care for all is one thing - and is probably shared by a vast majority of conservatives as well as liberals.

Supporting how the democrats actually plan to implement those ideals is, all too often, entirely different. THAT is where liberals and conservative end up barking at each other.

Let's face it- there isn't a Democrat on his board who has a clue what the plan is. They want it because they are too fucking cheap to write a premium check every month and they think that they can get the rich to pay for it. *shrug*

Would those be the same rich people who 50% of voted for Obama?

There are some services that should not be for profit, namely the military, police and healthcare. Virtually every other advanced country recognises this as a fact. The US is about the only country that still uses miles and gallons, plays soccer instead of football so I suppose it is not surprising that you cannot accept not for profit healthcare.

Topspins claims are kind of astounding, because it's from economic theory that we know that free markets and the profit motive do not apply well to the healthcare industry.

Marge, they've got some great deals on chemo over at St. Mary's!
