Retirees 'stunned' as market turmoil over tariffs shrinks their 401(k)s

You might be surprised as to how many people don't really understand how the market works. I would guess either you don't understand it or you don't talk to a lot of people about it.

Typical MAGATs -- Fox tells them something and they become Acme Instant Experts(tm) -- whether the topic is a pandemic/virus, the war in Ukraine, the stock market, tariffs, brain surgery, or rocket science, or climate change. lol

She was never a teacher. Ever. Every post s he makes proves it.

Before last November she was in rage and panic mode and repeated daily how horrible Biden/Harris were and how there was just such horrendous suffering and families going without and not being able to pay their bills. Why, they couldn't even afford Taylor Swift tickets!! Yep, she said that. But suddenly now everything is unicorns pooping rainbows because Trump. This is not an intelligent person. MAGATs very seldom are.
Yep back then MAGAS were crying that people were just getting by and inflation was through the roof under Biden and now they are cheering that Trump and his tariffs are going to drive up the cost of just about everything you buy and drive them into debt even farther.
Tariffs have their place but tariffs as high as Trump says he is going to put on ALL imported goods will do much more harm then they do good.
As I said prices have already been going up and not all his tariffs are in place yet.
Let the shit show begin.

Have they looked into ARC? Association of retarded children.
And maybe talk to the school board about how they plan to teach him?
That is what we did but now that was about 40 or so years ago and we got a lot of help.
How is he doing now?

So far the school district isn't offering much to pre-K children. The problem is lack of resources. We're hoping once he gets closer to beginning school, there will be more assistance available. He is extremely bright.* We all feel that mostly he will need help with transitions which right now cause him to get verklempt, and probably some language/speech therapy due to echolalia. He is a delightful fun liuttle boy with huge potential. He just needs a little more help than a typical child. We'll make sure that he gets it.

* Last year when he was three, they got tired of Netflix and canceled their subscription. He was crushed that he couldn't watch his favorite cartoon anymore. So when they were occupied elsewhere, he climbed up and got the remote, found Netflix, and signed them back up for another month. Then found his favorite cartoon and binged. lol

How is your son doing as an adult?

Just like President Musk, who is also a druggie and not right in the bean. It's said he's a sociopath.
He takes ketamine and is clearly lacking in empathy...even for his own children.

Empathy is an obscenity in Elon Musk’s vocabulary. The words care, share and fair are not in the MAGA lexicon.

The Tesla CEO exposed his contempt for compassion in an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan. The headline in the CNN digital story says it all, “Elon Musk wants to save Western civilization from empathy.”...

...President Trump’s enforcer told Rogan, “The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy, the empathy exploit.” He went on to say, “There they’re exploiting a bug in Western civilization, which is the empathy response.”

Musk pointed to seniors who are recipients of Social Security in the same interview. He portrays the program as a fraudulent “Ponzi Scheme” even though Social Security has saved millions of Americans from deprivation and despair in their twilight years.

He also took a shot at immigrants and accused them of exploiting the “bug” in his uncaring authoritarian system. The very same people, like my great grandparents, who come to the U.S. seeking political freedom and economic opportunity for themselves and their children. The immigrants who made this a great nation built on their blood, sweat and tears.

He told the WSJ that he also uses psychedelics like shrooms and LSD.

No doubt. He's clearly cray-cray.

He works and lives in a Group home, and is doing real good.
He likes it there and has a feeling of worth seeing he makes money and can buy himself things.
They had to change his job about a year ago because he was doing piece work and was making too much money, the state was coming in and taking some of it, so he now buys a new TV every couple of years and other things he wants,

Progress????????????
Crashing the economy and driving up the price of just about everything you buy is PROGRESS?
Alienating just about every one of our allies and causing what could be a world wide recession / depression is progress?
I think NOT.
Again....
We'll just have to Agree to disagree.. I prefer to be positive... And look forward... You do you....
[/QUOTE]

Did you "prefer to be positive" when Biden was Prez?

Trump should have campaigned on "there will be pain" instead of on fixing everything Day 1.
No pain=no gain. That's life. Always has been. To build something great you have to tear down the weak spots first and rebuild them stronger to save the rest. It all begins at the foundation,.....like life itself. A level equal opportunity trading system is at the core of the foundation. I'm sorry for the short term pain but this simply must be done. America is on the brink of total ruination,......we CANT lose this. There is no failure, its not even an option anymore, ....it simply cannot be allowed to happen,...we either win this thing in all aspects,........or die trying. Now grow a sack,....there's work that needs to be done.

Americans nearing retirement and recent retirees said they were anxious and frustrated following a second day of market turmoil that hit their 401(k)s after President Donald Trump’s escalation of tariffs.

As the impending tariffs shook the global economy Friday, people who were planning on their retirement accounts to carry them through their golden years said the economic chaos was hitting too close to home.

Some said they are pausing big-ticket purchases and reconsidering home renovations, while others said they fear their quality of life will be adversely affected by all the turmoil.

“I’m just kind of stunned, and with so much money in the market, we just sort of have to hope we have enough time to recover,” said Paula, 68, a former occupational health professional in New Jersey who retired three years ago.

“I looked at my 401(k) this morning and in the last two days that’s lost $58,000. That’s stressful,” said Victor Fettes, 54, of Georgia, who retired last week as a senior director of risk management and compliance at Verizon. “If that continues, I can’t stay retired.”

I hope everyone that voted Trump loses every cent of retirement money and spends their last days destitute on the street.
