Yes, when you mentioned he had outlived his wife, I was thinking that there was at least the one consolation, and that is his own, eternal happiness in the world beyond.

even knowing that the loss is temporary and that we will be reunited, the separation still hurts
 
That's tragic news...I was just thinking about Schadenfreude the other day, and wondering what had become of him. I'm so sorry for your loss, Don.
