If this is the intent...then they should be reclassified from amateur to Professional the distinction being Amateurs are not paid players...professionals are...so everyone above the HS level should be classified as professional...this would solve the problem!

NCAA div I athletics is huge business. Schools make huge money off their players. They sell Jerseys with the players number on it and make millions off some of them. That being said, they already are doing it for the money. Thier participation in college atheletics is just like most students going to class. It is an investment of time to make more money when you graduate. That is enough.

And the bulk of them FAIL to leave with a degree (basketball players have the lowest grad rate in NCAA)

I don't disagree that there is a problem. Those graduation rates need to improve.
