Should Congress Have Term Limits?

You think "voters having a choice" is the same as a term limit? :rofl2:

When a two year term is up what happens? Does it automatically renew like your BMG CD club you still have?

No. They are up for re-election. The voters get a choice.

You can split hairs if you want but I understand that you need the government to create more laws to protect you from yourself.

You are such a fool.

Brighter than you. You probably didn't understand what I said because Leon's balls were covering your eyes

A term limit is a legal restriction that limits the number of terms an officeholder may serve in a particular elected office. Term limits, also referred to as rotation in office, restrict the number of terms of office an officeholder may hold.

An election is a formal decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to hold public office. Elections have been the usual mechanism by which modern representative democracy has operated since the 17th century.

He's not too btight, is he.

I'm still waiting for a conservative to explain why laws codifying Congressional term limits haven't been passed by the GOP-led Congress...

Didn't the Tea Partiers promise term limits?

If you find some central platform of the "Tea Partiers" you can link us up. A disjointed group of libertarian-minded republicans began the T.E.A. Parties, but they got overtaken by the religious right who were upset early on how "libertarian" the movement was.

Anyway, I don't remember any central platform or promise of term limits. Although they did have some candidates sign pledges and most of them actually held to the promise. I don't think it did them much good.

The Founders never envisioned a Permanent Ruling Class. They envisioned a legislature of “citizen legislators” who would serve no more than a few terms, then return to their previous lives.

The connection is clear: The longer you stay, the greater the chance you’ll vote for higher spending and taxes.

Too many Members of Congress come to Washington thinking it’s a cesspool, and find out it’s a hot tub. They get seduced by the corruption of the Capital City, and forget they came to represent their constituents to Washington; instead, they begin to represent Washington to their constituents.

Because of gerrymandering and the advantages of incumbency, even in a wave election like 2010 or 2014, more than 80 percent of incumbents are still reelected.

Establishing term limits has been a wildly popular idea for 25 years now.

Pretty well, I'm sure you remember the 90s and the almost balanced budget... It did well for America.

FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.
