The GOP: A Dying Breed

Why would communist and neo-communist provide you with “literature” telling you what socialism is really all about?

Socialism is a pipe dream, a folly, pie-in-the-sky absurdity totally contrary to human nature and can only be operated by force or bribery. Thus, you have the Soviet Gulags of Communism, or the bribing of the vote with socialist programs of neo-communism.

It ain’t rocket science, its force or bribery or both.
Really? Then please explain to me why the US has perfectly well used the principles of socialism for nearly it's entire existence.

Physician heal they self. It's obvious that you don't understand what the principles of socialism are so quit being a hypocrit. Hell the two largest government institutions in our nation, The Military and Public Education are socialist institutions. If you had any shred of objectivity what so ever you'd also understand that there is a time and a place for socialism and this free market religion is dangerously niave as it has been proven far to many times that the free market can't take care of all of our nations needs.....if it could we'd have no need for government, would we?

Wrong as usual. the Social conservatives make up the majority of the GOP you pusillanimous twit!
They do now. That's also why Democrats control The Executive Branches and Judicial branches of Government and the Senate. If it wasn't for gerrymandering that Republicans drew to create most voting districts in rural regions Democrats would control the Legislative branch of Government as well since in our last election more people voted for Democratic representatives than for Republicans by over a million votes.

They are also the reason so many moderate Republicans ( as I used to be) have fled the party. It's become dominated in a large part by poorly educated rural angry white guys who are scared shitless of social change.

If that is true, which I doubt, it might explain why Obama won a second term.

It also explains why so many people have bailed out of the GOP. They are tired of the hypocrisy of claiming to want smaller & less intrusive gov't, while pushing for more intrusion into private lives.
Funny....Republicans have been talking that nonsense my entire life yet all the largest increase in the size and scope of Government powers in my lifetime have all come under Republican administrations.

It's time you faced up to facts WB that that "smaller" government line of crap is just a Machiavelian ploy Repubs like to use on proles. They have never, ever beleived in that. They just know thats a line of BS they can use to manipulate people.

I think you may be right, Mott.

Both of those assertions - the ones about the military and public education - would be true if the United States was anything close to a democracy. Let me make this clear to everyone who reads this: Everything we know about socialist theory, from all writers, of all eras, says that industry must be run by the population - the workers, specifically. When it's not, you don't have socialism. Plain and simple.

So you make a good point Mott. These institutions aren't capitalist, but they're not socialist either.

That's just complete and total nonsense. Socialism is a socioeconomic system in which the State owns the means to production and in which the rights/needs of the individuals are sacrificed for the good of the many. By that definition both our military and our public education systems are socialist institutions.

On a non-serious note... would the factory in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" be considered a socialist company? Of course, we don't know how much the oompa-loompas get paid, or if they have equity, but they do seem to have a lot of control over the means of production...

ok, ok, backing out now before someone hits me....

By that definition, you're right. But that's not the correct definition.

I dug up two posts I made when debating Yurt. They include references to Michael Harrington, Noam Chomsky, the Democratic Socialists of America, and a popular libertarian communist online journal.

Of course that all depends on which definition of socialism you choose to use to define the military and public education.
Maybe you’d like to explain how the military and public education fit the following definition?

SOCIALISM:
a political theory or system in which the means of production and distribution are controlled by the people and operated according to equity and fairness rather than market principles. (Encarta English Dictionary)

If you had any shred of objectivity what so ever you'd also understand that there is a time and a place for socialism and this free market religion is dangerously niave as it has been proven far to many times that the free market can't take care of all of our nations needs.....if it could we'd have no need for government, would we?

Oh! But according to the socialist purist “NO GOVERNMENT” is the end goal of socialism. Everything and everybody is controlled by democracy some kind of “people’s majority mandate.” Somehow everything and everybody controls all economy and all social activity by referendum. Somehow all hierarchy/government is eliminated. We need no government, we need no Constitution and we need no enforcement/enforcers.

So go ahead as you like to tout the “supposed” virtues of failing public education and a bloated Military Industrial Complex and claim it for your socialist incorporation. All you accomplish by that is provide more evidence of the failing stupidity of socialism.
