The Key Roles in a Political Party/Movement, and the problems facing the Democrats

There is a distinct difference between elder-spokesman, and active-head of a political movement or party.

Trump is the Active-Head of the GOP.

The GOP is a very Tradition oriented political party, and the Tradition is that the elder person elected as the Senate Leader is the elder spokesman.

Does that mean that John Thune is now the GOP elder spokesman?

(Thank all the Gods it is not McConnell!)

It certainly is not J.D. Vance. He is the Up and Coming Active-Head, not the elder spokesperson.

The Role of the Elder Spokesman, is to act as the Keel, to the Active-Head's Rudder. If, by some mis-step, the Active-Head goes astray, it is the Keel that keeps the ship from tossing about wildly, but limits the excesses, and keep the ship on a smooth course, until corrections can be made to the Rudder.

The Elder Spokesman need not have ever held public office. And they are often semi-retired from public life. For instance, for a long time, Bill Buckley was considered by most to be the elder spokesman of the GOP.

So, who is the Active-Head and who is the Elder Spokes Man of the both the Dems and the GOP?

It seems to me, that the biggest problem the Dems have, is that those who should have been their elder spokesman, Bill and Hillary Clinton, have both shown themselves to be corrupt profiteers.

It seems to me, that the second biggest problem the Dems have, it that they have no clear Active-Head of the party.

The Dems are a sinking, breaking apart raft without direction or stability.

I believe that for the GOP, Trump is the Active-Head, and John Thune is currently the Elder Spokesman.

I believe that for the Dems, the closest they have to an Active-Head, is a very contested AOC. The closest thing the Dems have to an Elder Spokesman is a very contested Bernie Sanders.

I also believe that there are a number of other very important political roles:

Out Spoken Fire Brand and Rebel ( Margery Taylor Green )

Up and Coming Active-Head, aka prince apparent

Soft Spoken Voice of Reason and Bipartisan Cooperation ( we don't seem to have one in either party ATM )

Fiscal Hawk and Voice for the Tax Payers Pocket Book ( Rand Paul, Trey Gowdy and Elon Musk )

Military Hawk and Voice for the National Defense ( Tulsi Gabbard )

Party Jester, who often uses sarcasm and parody to criticize the Active-Head ( Jon Stewart and Bill Mayer )

Note, these roles are not the Cabinet Members of the same core issues. The Military Hawk is not the Secretary of Defense! They are the member of the party or public who questions actions by the Secretary of Defense and the direction of the Active-Head.

This is how a Democratic Republic finds its way in difficult times.

Democrats are holding Townhalls for Republican representatives.

Bernie and AOC are turning out huge crowds in red districts. The younger generation Dems and the old school progressives like Liz and Bernie are on fire. It’s just the old dogs that won’t give up their power, but it’s coming…

That ^ is a naive view of the GOP, in reality, the GOP, the GOP of Reagan, no longer exists, today it is Trump, Trump owns the GOP, it is his, and his only, party. Long gone are the principles, traditions, and precedents that defined the GOP, today anything Republicans believe in or support is defined by Trump

And the Democrats lack any real leader. You could say Obama, but he is largely resigned, and currently theirs is a vacuum. However, Democrats, even without a dominate figure, generally adhere to a set of established principles centered upon the belief that the Government can make the lives of Americans better

Bernie has always drawn a crowd, and it seems he has designated AOC as his heir, however, Bernie, and AOC, are never going to unify Democrats, their beliefs are NorthEastern, and never sell enough across the country to lead the party

Our Democratic Party is ready to be replaced with a Social Democratic Party
with less centrist, more progressive leaders,
but they'll have to be much better than the current leaders at expanding the base.

Hide and watch! They are bringing out every age group in red districts! People are angry and the progressives of the party are answering the call.

what does "more progressive" mean to you?

what issues and what position on that issue is the progressivist?

I am glad you feel that way, and openly admit it.

I also believe that is why the Democratic Party will be extinct in 10 years.

We will see, but the fact that Bernie, and I like Bernie, could never sell himself nationally kinda proves the country isn’t drifting that far left. And AOC, who I also like, being a women, as sad as it is, can never dominate on a national level, as the last election showed, there are too many misogynists out there

The country didn’t think it was ready for his progressive democratic socialism, they are now looking at him with new eyes. The same with AOC.

It is the bending toward those “more progressive” issues that gets the Democrats beat. When Americans, all Americans, are worried about groceries they aren’t going to favor those making pronoun usage their top concern.

You obviously have not listened to Bernie if you think he talks about pronouns.

You are talking in abstractions Americans don’t understand nor have any need to understand

The US has been a partial socialist state since the 19th Century, all nations have a mixed economy, as do we, it is tough selling socialist ideas when many people don’t comprehend that such as Social Security is socialism.

Spoken like a typical Republican.

For the last 27 years running, Women, who are 52% of the population, have been 85%+ of the four year college Graduates. Of the Remaining 15%, most have been either Black, Latino, or LGBTQ+.

Straight, White, Males, are 30% of the American population, yet for those 27 years, they have been 4% or less of the college four year graduates.

And during those 27 years, Women have be designated as a "Disadvantaged Minority" in College Admissions, Scholarships, Grading, Disciplinary Bias, and Post Graduation Job Placement.

When America was throwing away half, 50%, of its gifted Engineers and Scientists, in not educating women, it was not competitive with any nation which gave them a chance.

Today, America is throwing away 30% of its gifted Engineers and Scientists, in not giving Straight, White Men, a chance. So, we are not competitive with Korea, Japan, China, and other nations not hung up on Identity Politics.

Do you know what the word Androgyny means?

Democrats aren’t going anywhere

In my lifetime I have heard that one party because of an election loss was going to be extinct in sometime, and not surprising, they never have. If Trump continues down the road he is on, 2026 will be a Democrat year. Due to demographics, they won’t win the Senate, but look for the House to go Blue, and then the Democrats Jimmy Jordans will keep Trump at bay leading into 2028
