The Senate

IMO the Presidency may be up for grabs, shouldn't be, but is. My guess is the Democrats will gain wider majority in House and pick up gains in Senate, whether or not 'veto proof' I don't know, but doubt the numbers will matter, (still assuming a likely Obama victory).

No, I understand you perfectly. You believe they did not govern as conservatives. You are in complete denial about any failure of conservative ideology. In fact, they governed exactly as conservatives. They ran saying they hated government and that it doesn’t work. Then they proved it. It is not that they failed because they didn’t keep their campaign promises, they failed because they did. The conservative ideology is a failure.

Yes, I'm aware liberals such as yourself think conservative/libertarian/free market ideology is a failure.

Most in the Senate were elected before Bush became President. They were not elected on a platform in the '80s or '90's on a 'support Bush in the future platform'.

Because they followed Bush on a lot of issues does not mean that is what the voters (or Republicans) wanted them to do. If someone in the Senate followed Bush on the pill bill for example, that is their own fault. Bush may pressure them but he doesn't vote for them. The fault is their own.

Yep the fault is their own that they carried Bush's water.

That they were there before Bush is a lame defense and only supports Darla's stance on this. Republicanism is a failed strategy. I hope they fall into the minority for the next 30 years or so. Maybe America will have a Chance if that happens.

Well you know, the facts usually do support Darla’s stance on things. That’s why Cawacko gets so frustrated. The truth is biased towards Darla.

He still can’t top SF for frustrated anger over being wrong all of the time though. SF gets like a cat on a hot tin roof, hopping all over the place, making noises.

Democrats ran the House for 34 straight years until 1994. Did the world fall apart in 1994 when the Republicans won?

The air-conditioning in my office is out for the second day this week, totally seriously. I am down to the tank top I had under my suit jacket, and my hair in a pony tail. I am still hot and cranky. Kicking Cawacko and SF around is the only thing that can make me feel better. So let’s go boys!

I apologize for interupting this cyber blowjob but must admit it is fun to watch.

you shouldn't be using your A/C anyway. Practice what you preach!!!

really? and what time period are you referring to?

Well, you can go back in time to before the progressive era to see how disastrous it is for workers, and you can go back pre-new deal to see what it does to the economy. Or, you can check out current events. You know, your choice, whatever.

well, we don't have unfettered markets today so that's not really a good comparisons.

We can easily look around the globe and see countries that have open up there economy and implemented the respect for the rule of law and property rights etc. and see how they have done compared to more closed off more centrally run economies.

We live in the age of deregulation and open markets. It’s done a lot for the middle and lower classes, hasn’t it? I think you guys should keep going. A few more years on this downward spiral and I think the people will be ready to start cutting off some heads.

Nobody in the Democratic Party, or even the Green Party is talking about closed, "centrally run" economies.

Why do you guys keep throwing out these red herrings? Republican ideology has failed. Trying to paint Democrats, liberals, and Greens as communists is lame.

You know, hope you are sitting down, you are right (on one part). Bringing up other countries was not relative to our discussions so I was wrong on that point.

As far 'Republican ideology has failed' well this is the third time its been used on this thread by three different people so I'm not sure if that's a talking point going around or not but an interesting concept.

Well, only if making the observation “the sky is blue” is a “talking point”.

It took some time. sheesh.
Again very flaccid.

And in all honesty they did have some help from the Leibercrats too.

It's unlikely they'll pick up filibuster-proof majorites in the senate, or enough to be able to govern without the blue dogs in the house. The Democrats haven't had literally veto-proof majorities since the 30's though, whenever they didn't need them.

Whenever the Democrats grabbed control over the house in the 30's, they really knew how to keep it. I think people misunderstood Tip when he said "All politics is local". It was basically like extortion - the Democrats held control for like fifty years in district that barely fit them because of personality politics and tons and tons of pork.

Okay, I don't have time to read through entire threads. I just know that republicans love that "centrally planned socialist economies" stuff, and they try to link it by proxy to Democrats and liberals.

I've been saying for years that republican ideology doesn't work on balance. And not only that, I've been saying for years that it is morally corrupt.
