"The state of America" today is intellectually abysmal compared to the state of America 150 years ago. Then educated Americans were educated. They knew history, science, the arts, had home libraries, engaged in conversation, exchanged literate letters. The posts on this forum shown to them from 150 years in the future would stun them. Instead of an America that had advanced as theirs had advanced they would see shocking regression.
