Trump’s Overrated Peace Plan Helped Enable the Horrors in Israel and Gaza

Incompetent Trump sowed the seeds for this disaster, and is now blaming Biden, which is typical Trump.

No American president caused Hamas’ surprise assault across the Gaza border that killed over 900 Israelis—mostly in deliberate, brutal attacks on civilians, including 260 at a music festival—and kidnapping about 150 more. But U.S. policy, especially the Trump administration’s, contributed to the unsustainable situation that made an outbreak of violence more likely

Trump shifted U.S. policy fully in Israel’s favor—reducing support for the Palestinians and treating their quest for statehood as something that could be ignored—and shaped the regional context by heightening confrontation with Iran without strategic benefit.

A 2 state solution is the only potential answer for peace. Bibi is against it. Trump was against it. You cannot smother people and expect them to accept it without reacting. Gaza has fences, therefore Palestinians cannot get out or receive help. Except experts say they have built a city underground. They get shipments from neighbors and allies. They have been shipping gasoline in for years. They get weapons.

Yea, yea, The Daily Beast, a radical Leftist publication, tries to make this about Trump...

The article tries to make the argument that somehow, Trump turning the screws on Iran--in part through support for Israel and the first movement in peace in the Middle East with Bahrain and the UAE normalizing relations with Israel--somehow opened up large vistas and routes for Iran to increase support for Hamas and Hezbollah, among other terrorist groups. That's some mighty twisted logic there. Trump was in office four years. Hamas, the Palestinians, and Israel remained low key and relatively peaceful for that time period. Then Biden took office. Roughly three years into Biden's term, Hamas launches a large-scale attack--unprovoked--on Israel and targets civilians almost entirely.

Yet, somehow, Nicholas Grossman, the article's author and longtime Trump hater

finds it all Trump's fault for this assault, not Israeli complacency, not anything Biden did or didn't do, nothing. It's Trump's fault in his opinion. For Grossman and The Daily Beast this war is purely the fault of conservatives and the Right. He's an idiot, and The Daily Beast is letting their hard Left bias blind them to that.

If you believe the lies that Trump is spewing out about blaming Biden for the Med East violence , then you're an idiot.

I'm not blaming either one for this latest round of fighting. This is on Israel for being complacent and Hamas for being insane assholes.

The Palestinians are against it. Funny how you left them out of that...

The reason Gaza is so isolated is Israel doesn't want terrorists from Gaza doing evil shit in their country, and Egypt, likewise, doesn't want terrorists from Gaza doing evil shit in their country. If Gazan Palestinians stopped doing evil terrorist shit in their neighbor's countries the borders with Gaza wouldn't be closed like they are.

to be fair, constantly letting israeli settlers settle on lands they're not sposta (and using force doing so) is not really respecting the spirit of an agreement. is it?

let's just have a speck of fucking honesty.

zionists adore the half truth. they tell half of the story.

Oh, I'm not saying Israel is innocent by any means. It's just they don't generally start shit with their neighbors and use perpetual violence as a tool. I think the Israeli policy of settling the West Bank is a mistake, but the Palestinians aren't helping that by refusing to become an actual nation themselves. Remaining in a limbo in refugee status where Israel has some control over the West Bank--enough to allow settlements--is a horrendous mistake on the part of Palestinian leaders.

gaza lives basically under seige conditions all the time. meanwhile israelis keep settling lands with force in places they're not supposed to.

basically if the clearly more powerful party to the agreement doesn't honor it, it's dogshit.

And those conditions are largely self-imposed. Clearly if Gaza wasn't a massive hotbed of terrorist activity it wouldn't be so closed off by its neighbors who don't want that shit spreading into their countries. Israel isn't settling lands in Gaza. The three settlements they had there were abandoned--intact I might add--decades ago and Israel hasn't been back.

no they're still doing that settling shit.

The two-state solution was the original solution in 1947. It resulted in war in 1948 because the Palestinians and other Arabs weren't satisfied except for taking it all. Time to end this by destroying those seeking the destruction of Israel.

That fluctuates. Sometimes they do, sometimes they do not. At this time, they are so sick of Israeli oppression that they cannot trust them. The questions are about what borders. If they return to the 67 borders, they have a majority pro. As Israel eats more and more of their land, they do not trust them.

Everyone involved in that deal is dead. The organizations are defunct. The players are different. What stays the same if Israel's relentless move to take Palestinian lands.
