‘Very disturbing’: Canadians flee Florida, worrying business owners

My own relatives in Ottawa are canceling any plans to visit the states. My cousins have never been hostile to the USA in the five decades I've known them.

So to get you on record, are you proud to live in a nation many mild mannered Canadians are now hostile towards?
If they are friends of yours, I count their decision to be a blessing. Thanks for the update.

Hostility doesn't always mean "violence."

These tariffs are absolutely a hostile action, and it's certainly perceived that way by many of our trade partners. You don't need to look further than their reactions.
Then Canada is hostile, by your own definition, since it charges among the highest tariffs in the world.

So about the 450% tariff Canada has on American dairy? That would be outrageously hostile, right?

Tariffs by America BAD - Tariffs against America GOOD.

Stalinists are such fucking clowns.

Trump broke a treaty.

Really? What treaty is that?

You wouldn't be outright lying, would you?

That’s the hostility. It was one Trump signed with Canada and Mexico in 2019. It had not expired.

NAFTA was a trade agreement, not a treaty. Nor is USMCA

You Stalinists sure like to lie.

I found this hilarious - what your party said when USMCA was established.

{

WHAT COULD USMCA MEAN FOR THE U.S. ECONOMY?

Probably not much. Trade is a relatively small part of the U.S. economy. And trade with Mexico and Canada is smaller still. In an analysis done last year, the independent International Trade Commission calculated that USMCA would add 0.35% or $68 billion, to economic growth and generate 176,000 jobs over six years — mere blips in a $22 trillion economy with 152 million nonfarm jobs.}

.35% - What the fuck? You Marxists keep claiming that putting tariffs on Canada will destroy our economy...

Meh, you lie - it's what you do.

Uh, it's springtime down here. That means it's slightly cooler dog days of summer. This is the time of year the snowbird's fly north for the summer. It's 83 degrees outside with 70% humidity, and not a Canadian license plate in sight. These people who say they won't be coming back this fall? Let's wait and see.

Beside the point. If tariffs are hostility, then most of the world is hostile toward the US, right?

My neighbors, I'd hope, would laugh at me if I threatened to take their home because it's ridiculous on its face. Do I? No. Does Trump appear to, because he constantly says idiotic things and can't help himself? Yes.
What if it was Trump? Would they laugh then?

“Two-thirds of Canadians said they’d significantly reduced their purchases of American products in stores (68%) and online (65%), and 59% said they’re less likely to visit the U.S. this year than in 2024, according to a survey last week by the Canadian market researcher Leger. Some 36% of Canadians with U.S. travel plans said they’d already canceled them.”

Technically, since he's the President, I wouldn't laugh as much. Kind of like states have eminent domain rights, it's possible that the federal government could take my house. I wouldn't mind much because I'd get a fat check.

But, you're changing the power dynamic and situation overall. Neighbor to neighbor isn't the same as neighbor to government/president.

The difference is the neighbor is Canada and Trump is the President of the United States and the Canadian government is now taking to heart everything Trump says, and taking steps against his threats. They have stated they no longer trust Trump. He broke the trade agreement, and he wants Canada as the 51st state. Canadians have been insulted by Trump’s lies about them.

Humans are well attuned to picking up on body language and verbal intonation when someone is just kidding around. They would know if you were joking.

If you approached your neighbors dead serious with threats to their property and their economic well being, they would still think you are an asshole even if you came back the next day to say you were just kidding

Only MAGA morons use the "let Trump be Trump!" excuse.

We have standards and etiquette for how world leaders should act.

Here's the thing.... I don't care if my neighbor is serious. He literally can't take my home.

I'm not saying I agree with Trump or how he behaves as President. He's the most embarrassing President of my life time; possibly ever. I'm just pointing out the reality of who he is and what he does.
