You Yankees, Easteners, and Midwesterners would be totally lost in Texas.
There are only two kinds of tacos- TEX-MEX and MEXICAN Street Tacos.
There is nothing in-between.
TEX-MEX tacos gets a bad rap because of the exploitation, bastardization, and abomination of the TEX-MEX taco offered at Taco Bell, Jack-In-The-Box, and many other NASTY FAST-FOOD Restaurants.
However most TEXAN 3rd graders know how to prepare TEX-MEX tacos easily at home by using REAL and lean scrambled and cooked hamburger meat, stuffing the meat between a folded stiff corn taco shell, dicing up some tomatoes, onions, and Cilantro for garnishing, and lobbing on some Mexican Blend shredded cheese melting on the hot meat, and drowning the entire thing with some homemade salsa made in the blender with a can of tomatoes, a jalapeno pepper, some fresh garlic and onion, and cilantro, and a heaping teaspoon of cumin and chili pepper!
Street Tacos require further study, as they are more of an art and tradition than just a FOOD- as they are a staple in the Mexican diet, heritage, and lifestyle!
