“Will DOGE lose more money than it saves?”

“ The Department of Government Efficiency claims that it has saved the country $115 billion so far. But is this accurate?”

“On DOGE’s website, it claims that $115 billion has saved taxpayers around $715 each. However, DOGE has deleted hundreds of claims from its “wall of receipts” several times.”

“DOGE’s plan to cut staff at the IRS by up to 50% would lead to a $400 billion increase in uncollected taxes over the next 10 years. This could lead to $2 trillion in losses. Right now, the IRS fails to collect around $700 billion in taxes that are owed each year. The Quarterly Journal of Economics suggests that every dollar that is spent on auditing individuals in the top 10% of earners returns around $12.”

“The Treasury Department’s inspector general has previously estimated that each hour spent auditing a high earner creates close to $5,000 more in tax revenue”

Not surprising, there is a reason Trump quickly eliminated the IGs and watchdogs on Government spending, the last thing he and Musk want is having to prove what they bloviate

Given how much bloat, excess, waste, fraud, corruption, misspent money and such the federal government is involved in right now,
DOGE can't possibly fail to pay for itself many times over.
The Department of Education has 4,200 employees, and less than 0.3% overhead. That is not bloated. The waste and fraud that exists is because of a lack of bureaucrats to eliminate it.

Dodge is a mess. It is not working out what it is doing, before it does it. This is creating a wasteful disaster.

The real cost will be determined long the future. They have to pay for so many court cases that Musk is creating with his ridiculous power grab. They will have to rehire a lot of people, because Govt, work is real work.

One of our biggest expenses as a nationi is the interest on our debt. Pay that debt down by raising taxes on the uber wealthy, closing loopholes, and enforcing existing tax law will help immensely. Tariffs will not. Notice how neither #PresidentMusk nor his lapdog are talking about that?

What does Churchill have to do with anything?

You can balance your budget -- personal or national -- by both decreasing spending and increasing income. Clinton did it.

Most of us agree that there is a lot of wasteful spending by the federal govt. However, the more sane among us understand that you don't cut it with a dancing idiot waving around a chainsaw. You cut it judiciously. One way to weed out waste and fraud is to offer incentives to employees and managers to report it, anonymously so they don't get reprisals.

Wow! What a powerful insight!

Yesterday the brainless idiot got slammed for making close to zero political posts, and the day before. Instead she lurked in her "tribute threads," drinking copiously and screaming incoherently about crazy stuff. It was quite spectacular, if you're into flaming clown car wrecks. lol

Do you think that mocking someone's auto-correct error counts as a "political post"?

Churchill is one of the first great so called progressives. he was also the original one to state that you can't tax your way in to prosperity.

Clinton raised taxes and decreased spending not to balance a budget, but to find a way to implement his own desired programs in an agreement with Gingrich.

Agreed. In fact I was one of the first who ridiculed trump for DOGE because you don't tout cutting waste, fraud, and spending by creating an entire new agency within the federal government. We all know that the whistle blower program was smoke and mirrors.......people still get punished for blowing the whistle.

Until we stop electing self serving republicans and democrats in to federal office, we will continue to have our money stolen from us while it is deposited in to the pockets of those democrats and republicans, their donors, and cronies.

That is the thing MAGAS are crying the libs don't want waste and fraud cut.
It isn't that, most people I know do but going in and just start cutting programs first and not finding the waste and fraud FIRST is not the way to do it and that is just what Trump and his boys are doing.
And it is hurting some people big time.

Trump is absolutely the wrong person to be doing this. He is all about style and appearances and doesn't care about substance. The idiotic prancing on stage with a chainsaw is a pure Trumpian game show schtick -- bread and circuses for the MAGAT masses. What is needed is a thoughtful, sober, rational executive who systemically and methodically has competent accountants and other bean counters go through each agency's budget and question everything. This executive would have worked with experts and nonbiased advisers to construct guidelines and policy for what constitutes waste (and fraud).

This would of course take time. Trump's short attention span, and that of his Cult, wants instant results and is loathe to take the hard road to cutting wasteful spending with a minimum of pain.

What the Dept of Ed does is in and of itself wasteful and unnecessary. We don't need a cabinet level department of the federal government to hand out loans and grants to schools. Note that the Dept of Ed was formed as a political sop by the Democrats to teacher's unions to get (eg., buy) their vote.

That’s wrong, I just gave you the exact reason why, if the IRS already falls to collect now close to a trillion every year in unpaid taxes how does a 50% cut in their staff and resources not result in even greater lost revenue?

And no one is arguing the Government needs cutting, but doing it indiscriminately without any design can only result in further problems, when you eliminate half the workforce without first exams that workforce you could wind up with even worse fraud and waste
