WTF IS THIS CRAP BY DAVID PATERSON???

He is making budget cuts Chap.

I guess what I am most upset about over this whole thing, is that I remember as if it were yesterday, the left arguing that if you went ahead with these crazy bush economics, you'd end up with the states having to raise taxes to cover their inevitable shortfalls.

The right in this country thought there would be a free ride. Well, there is no free ride. It's time to take responsibility for the lunatic economic policies that got us here.

It's time to pay for our ride.

Just seems ridiculously regressive is all. I can see increasing the luxury tax on the rich but going after college, taxi cab sales tax, cheap clothing, etc is just crazy to me... and furthermore this is scary how they are treading into taxing of downloads.

Oh really?

Which States have the Best/Worst economies?

According to research by The Kaufmann Foundation, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Maryland have the best economic climate. That's because they are successfully adapting to a global economy by attracting innovative and entrepreneurial companies. For that reason, these states are most likely to create and retain high-value and well-paying jobs. The states that are improving the most are Wisconsin, Vermont, North Dakota and Rhode Island.

The states at the bottom of the list are West Virginia, Mississippi, South Dakota, Arkansas and Alabama. Their economies are more reliant on manufacturing than information technology. The states that are declining most rapidly are Missouri, Maine, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Hawaii.

BEST
Maryland - Democrat
Massachusetts - Democrat
New Jersey - Democrat

WORST
Alabama - Republican
Arkansas - Democrat
Mississippi - Republican
South Dakota - Republican
West Virginia - Democrat

FACTS always tend to get in the way of ideology.

The Kauffman foundation tends to measure things by how many innovative companies it determines a state has.
If we look at the more important attribute that matters most to people of job growth AND we look at data that is more micro like counties instead of states, we can get a clearer picture.

So, here is a list of the top 10 counties with the highest job growth and brightest future:

1. Tooele County, Utah Job growth: 112.5%
2. Sumter County, Fla. Job growth: 96.3%
3. Flagler County, Fla. Job growth: 70.5%
4. Summit County, Utah Job growth: 51.4%
5. Loudoun County, Va. Job growth: 51.3%
6. Wasatch County, Utah Job growth: 50.4%
7. Kendall County, Ill. Job growth: 47.4%
8. Lee County, Fla. Job growth: 47.1%
9. Collier County, Fla. Job growth: 46.9%
10. Lyon County, Nev. Job growth: 46.5%

http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/moneymag/0707/gallery.BPTL_job_growth.moneymag/index.html

Out of the top 10, 9 are in Conservative Republican run states, Florida has an astonishing 4 of the top 10 (validating what I said earlier) and even the one exception in Illinois is in a Conservative Republican area.

Job-creating businesses and investment are attracted to less regulation, lower taxes and less government spending, which really should be a boneless wonder.

You fucking retard.

State government matters SOOOOOOO much more on an economy than local government. You are truly the spinmaster of the world.

Not really, they just want them dependent on government and have control over their money to spend on them - it's more that they trust serfdom over individuals and family's freedom to spend their own money.

No wonder Liberal Democrat run states like New York lose more people than they gain every year.

It's inappropriate to capitalize liberal in liberal Democrat.

And the south SUCKS. Conservatism SUCKS and its driving our nation into the ground.

Yah what a hero. He will show all those poor kids in the projects. Now you pay a premium for you downloaded music and sneakers.

LMAO. Chap, poor kids in the projects aren't downloading songs at a dollar a pop at itunes. They're way too smart for itunes.

Middle-aged, comfortable white people are doing that. Like you and me. I can afford another few cents and I'm not going to cry over it.

But local government would factor in state government as well Waterdork. Hence why the data gives a clearer view.

Left FAIL

well you guys dont mind so your taxes will keep going up cause you will keep electing taxers.

No, it does not. It just shows a number of towns that are experiencing extraordinary windfall from a boom at the time. Free market policies do not get you +100% employment - finding an oil field, or having New Orleans knocked out next to you, does.

If you disagree, institute your free market paradise on a deserted desert island and see how many jobs you get.

No, people mind. Property taxes here are difficult.

I'm just saying, I understand. In fact, I clearly remember it being predicted by a couple of "left wing lunatics" about six years ago. As a direct result of Bush economics.

YES it does. Any town or city in a state is OBVIOUSLY going to be affected by the policies of the state but as well by the local government's economic climate.
All you said certainly excuses New Orleans or areas hit by acts of God, but doesn't excuse the rest of Liberal Democrat run areas where the amount of jobs created is low. The rest of your examples like an oil discovery or gold discovery is again very rare and pertaining to the examples listed nothing to do with successful Conservative Florida counties.

It's common sense, lower taxes and lower regulations attract more job-creating investment. You can't get around that.

If you disagree, institute your free market paradise on a deserted desert island and see how many jobs you get.
You mean like the low or no tax havens in the Caribean where people are exceedingly wealthy?

I honestly don't mind the itunes thing. That's no necessity. Downloading songs for a dollar each is a luxury. At least let's be honest. People aren't eating. They're not able to heat their homes. I'm going to bitch about what, another five cents a song? Come on.

Yep there's a huge race to the bottom there. That's the biggest problem with free trade; countries slowly tear down their quality of life so that they can compete to get the biggest corporation. There shouldn't be a competition of laws.

But those islands were already established. They don't produce anything; they just exist as a convenient legal loophole. It's not the free market at works.

Do you care about paying tax on your taxi rides?

Chap, the taxi fares went up so much a couple of years ago. I mean, it was a brutal raise. I know people who stopped taking cabs because of it. Taxis are kind of a luxury, in NYC anyway. Because you have much cheaper modes of mass transportation readily available. You have the buses and the subways. Either of which I'll take if it's convienent. But when I take a taxi, I'm already paying top dollar.

Honestly the only tax that I saw, and i have not looked at all of them, that I'm against, is raising the community college tuitions. college is unaffordable enough.

I believe that your state is becoming more liberal then even MA. Even in this state if Duval released a plan like that he would be voted out of office for a republican next election guaranteed.

YAY - MA isnt the breadbasket of liberalism anymore.

That could happen here. These are just my opinions. There could be a lot of pissed off people. I'm waiting to see what happens actually.

of course there is. A young professional person in the city could see there expenses go up by hundred or even thousands per year because of this.

Any young professional living in the city has already decided that money is not an issue. If they were really concerned about money they'd live in Hoboken.

Yep there's a huge race to the bottom there.
There is not. The poor do well on those islands as well.

That's the biggest problem with free trade; countries slowly tear down their quality of life so that they can compete to get the biggest corporation. There shouldn't be a competition of laws.
Are you serious? Free trade has done nothing but improve poorer countries like Mexico, China, Viet Nam, etc... Their quality of life has increased immensely. You forget that in attracting a business like a corporation they offer tax breaks, NOT subsidies, meaning they still always have a gain and moreover it can only get bigger when factoring in the income and sales taxes generated from the newly employed workers.

But those islands were already established. They don't produce anything; they just exist as a convenient legal loophole. It's not the free market at works.
Sure it is, they attract investment (albeit capital investment) because they take very little from the gains that come from them.

There are plenty of Socialist left-wing islands like Cuba or Haiti or Jamaica that are shit poor because of high amounts of government.
