(PHOENIX) — The state of Hawaii has confirmed the birth of President Obama in the state, so now his supporters in Arizona who wish to vote for him will get their chance. Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett, who earlier this month threatened to keep the president off the Arizona ballot and called for more information about the president’s birth certificate, said Wednesday that Hawaii had provided the confirmation he was seeking.

“Late yesterday, our office received the ‘verification in-lieu of certified copy’ from officials within the Hawaii Department of Health that we requested in March. They have officially confirmed that the information in the copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for the President matches the original record in their files,” Bennett said in a statement Wednesday.

Birthers believe President Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen and have sparked debate about his eligibility to be president. Bennett has insisted that he is not a birther, but defended his request Wednesday, saying that it was his “responsibility to certify the ballot to the state’s 15 counties.”

While that's nice to hear there's always a bit a sadness when a mystery is solved. The excitement. The anticipation. Gone.

And let's not forget the Birthers. More than a few broken hearts lie in a pile. :(

They received a certification in lieu... Basically, the official checks the original against the document they were provided and certifies that it is the same. That satisfies the law that the Sec. of State was following. So now that they got it, they're done.

It was a silly story to begin with. The people in Arizona decided the Sec. of State would have the job of verifying eligibility, he did his job.

Because you insist on posting this in multiple threads Ill respond here the same way...

He did not say what he got or what made him satisfied, I find that suspisous.

He did say what he received. A certification in lieu of a certified copy is a legal document with a specific definition. That an attorney doesn't understand what it means is "suspicious". I believe you are being disingenuous.

Basically what a certification in lieu of a certified copy is: The AZ Sec of State sends a copy of the document he has, the HI office verifies that the information on the document matches the original document, they create, certify, seal, and deliver the verification.

It's not difficult Jarod, and I do not believe you didn't know that. Nobody can be that bad at their job and survive.

what about mittens birth certificate, after all was he not born in mexico...

If the AZ Sec of State follows the law, he will be provided either a certified copy of Mitt's birth certificate or have to go through this same process to certify that information provided by the candidate matches with the original.

Say I provide a copy that isn't certified, he would need to obtain a document from Colorado saying that the copy I gave them has correct information.

what a circus

what a circus

Yeah, but you can't blame it on him. He didn't write the law, it's just his job to follow it.

Here's a question, has AZ already received that certification for Romney's documents and the Press simply didn't report on it but decided to focus on only one of the candidates?

You really think a resolution to this story will matter one whit to morons like that nutcase Sherriff Joe?

I look forward to more birther stupidity as November draws closer.

I hope they send sheriffs to Juarez to find Senior Willard's Birth Certificate!
