part of the question though, is should anything be done - in the area in goleta, shoring up the eroded area led to more erosion due to the layout of surrounding area and seabed

I wonder how many rich conservatives are willing to let their oceanfront property slide into the sea to avoid spending taxpayer dollars on coastal erosion abatement.

Democrats run California, then top it off with all the idiot environmentalists and you get the problems they are having in Santa Barbara.

This is one reason state coastal regulators in 2009 turned down a proposal by Santa Barbara County to fortify an eroding section of Goleta Beach park lashed by periodic storms. A rock wall was built as a temporary stopgap, but a long-term solution was needed. After the state rejected the construction of another hard structure, park officials, working with environmentalists, came up with a Plan B: Move gas, water and sewer lines out of the risk zone. Relocate a bike path to higher ground. Demolish 150 parking spaces and allow the acre of asphalt to be reclaimed by the beach.

Around California, relocation of coastal infrastructure and development is being pushed by the Surfrider Foundation and other environmental groups.

Ohh probably about the same amount that live in beach front homes and would not mind seeing a drilling rig off their shore.
Or mind having a refinery built down the road.

Every year down here in Texas we get a round of lawsuits by rich beachfront property owners who expect the average citizens to pay for the restoration of the beaches directly in front of their homes.

How petty and self absorbed does one have to be to not realize that erosion of beaches has been going on for BILLIONS of years, yet these self same petty property owners expect the taxpayers to fund the restoration of their private beaches due to ongoing erosion.
