big surprise, motorcycle helmet laws save lives

should we allow the state to enforce any rule, regulation, or law that makes us safer from ourselves? should we allow them to remove our right to choose simply because some people choose wrongly?

michigan has passed a revised helmet law where a person can ride without a helmet if they have $20,000 of medical coverage...the objection to riding without a helmet is the added cost to the state having to pay for the uninsured or under insured when they have an accident

perhaps this is better, let the fools that want to ride without a helmet pay...think of it as evolution in action

of course helmet laws are just another manifestation of the 'nanny' state, except for the medical costs of taking care of under insured motorcyclists...

Then demand they have adequate insurance or let them eat cake....there is no reason others should pay there bills if they can't or won't....

If they can afford a bike, they can afford insurance....same as auto owners and drivers...

Should you and I be paying for sky divers, bull riders, race car drivers, and others that live dangerously ? Their choice, their lives, their problem...none of my business.

Disease and sickness is whole different matter.....

How is disease and sickness a whole different matter, Blabo?

Explain why the government should be able to compel the purchase of auto and motorcycle insurance but not the purchase of health coverage.

Would you like to know why the sky is blue too ??

Try clicking on .................oh, I don't know......................just about anywhere on the post. :palm:

ok, it appears that the old evolution in action does apply, people that wear helmets are safer in general because of how they approach riding

now, what about lower speed accidents...a friend whipped out on a motorcycle wearing a helmet and the face shield prevented his face from receiving a road rash

so a good set of leathers and a helmet can save you damage at lower speeds...at higher speeds you ass is grass

oh well

ps next time you post a link, it would be a good idea if you mentioned it...

I didn't realize that your condition prevented you from seeing the color that is the default for links.

Maybe the real reason is that it's usually the younger and newer riders that tend to take the riskier actions while riding.
NIce to see how you went from helmets saving lives, to saving skin.

How about making the laws tougher on those who want to use the excuse of "I didn't see the motorcycle"?
I doubt whether the Courts would let someone use that excuse for somone who ran over a child in a crosswalk.

People who post evolutionary answers to societies attempts to impose safety measures are idiots who should truly be the ones shot for the improvement of the human race.

i do not see colors as well as i used to and thought that the color of your post was simply an affectation

it is not that we need tougher laws, but that the existing laws be enforced properly

And how do you porpose that we make sure that this is accomplished?
There have been 12 riders, who I had casually known, who have been killed this past year, by cage drivers who "didn't see them".
6 of those drivers were just given a ticket(s).
