If Romney wins, will it be close or a blowout?

What do you think?

Hail Voltaire
I am beginning to see a landslide in the making. I could be wrong, but the fact that polls are so close in Michigan and Wisconsin is very promising. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Romney takes 54%+ of the popular vote and over 300 electoral votes.

electorally if either side catches on with a message, the electoral count could be huge. Raw vote totals I think we are way past the era of true blowouts. Unless we consider high 50's or something a blowout.

I think a margin of 5 - 6 points can be considered a blowout by today's standards. Gone are the days of a candidate winning 47/50 States, like Reagan in '84, Johnson in '64, etc.

Al Gore lost. That was the decision. If I ever see a history book claiming otherwise I'll burn it. He lost...done deal. Recounts and hanging chads .... Ugh....I still remember those agonizing days following the election.

Al Gore got the popular voat, he also would have had the Florida vote had the Supreme Court not intervened.

He could have made it a moot point by asking for a full-state recount - I'm still kind of bummed he didn't do that. He tried to cherrypick counties.

which is why the SCOTUS decision was the correct one. From the massive recount done afterward, Gore still would have lost

Precisely. Liberal recounters, card inspectors in liberal counties....how do you think the rest of the country felt? It'd be like a close election with Obama squeaking out a narrow victory in Oklahoma (LOL) and letting our nuts oversee the recount/inspection.

It's a product of the media age. Recounts are allowable, and I agree w/ that concept. But the images of people holding up ballot cards and looking at chads was troubling for a lot of folks.

But there were other troubling things that an election that close brought up, too - it kind of worked both way. Some of the stories about hordes of votes getting thrown out & other questionable practices made us seem almost 3rd world.

Bush was was the popularly elected president only once.

People don't remember, but the Bush campaign thought it was going to end up the opposite - that they'd win the popular vote, but lose the electoral. They floated a trial balloon before the election to see if they could challenge the results if that happened without splintering the country.

And you can be pretty sure that Rush, Hannity & the rest would still be talking about it.
