Hoyer: Republicans Will Sink America To Drown Obama

Add House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) to the list of high profile Democrats who are publicly accusing Republicans of intentionally undermining the economy in order to defeat President Obama.

“There’s no intention on behalf of the Republicans in the House of Representatives to try to help the president move this country forward,” Hoyer told a small group of reporters in his Capitol office on Thursday morning. “I quote Jesse Jackson, who I thought said it best, there are a lot people in Washington who want to drown the captain and are prepared to sink the ship in order to do so.”

Hoyer joins Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and others who say the House GOP’s refusal to adopt even bipartisan measures like funding for transportation projects, and the renewed brinksmanship over the debt limit suggest that Republicans are engaged in deliberate economic sabotage.

That is Obama's first term in a nutshell.

Tip O'Neil & Reagan worked together. Gingrich & Clinton worked together.

Even during the Bush years, while there WAS obstructionism, there were also earnest efforts by both sides to work together for the common good.

The GOP during Obama's tenure has been abysmal. They should be embarassed.

That would require a conscience.

lol....you're such a hack

culture of corruption etc....do you even remember that? do you even remember the dem motto to get office in 06? it was to defeat bush and defy him. good lord onceler.

the partisan hackery has always been there. you're right that in prior times, both sides of the aisle could work together. however, imo, i believe, that given the dems blind anger at bush during his term, we are seeing a fallout of that.

also...given the 2010 elections, it was clear then that the majority of americans do not support the dem/obama plan. so why should they "work" with obama, when the whole 2010 election was about obama. and don't deny the dems didn't make it about obama like the pubs did?

what should be done onceler?

Nice defense for Obama. Once again, Onceler, you've proven to be a shill for the Democrat party.

The problem with your assessment is that there is no "working together" with this president. It's either his way, or the highway. No one in their right mind will work with an inflexible egomaniac, and Hussein is just that. Better to just ride the next few months out while he hangs himself.

actually.....obama did work with the pubs when he extended bush's tax cuts....that is just one example

Why do you think the GOP has stonewalled Obama?

LOL... yeah... it is all the GOP... not the least bit the Dems in Congress or Obama trying to ram everything they wanted down our throats for two years. Now its... 'do it my way or I will call you obstructionists!'.

There was a bipartisan agreement, then Obama fucked it up. Now he wants to try the exact same shit he said he would do in 2009 all over again. We already know how that turned out. He failed to do much, if any, of the infrastructure buildout and he simply pumped money to state and local public unions. Those are not solutions. The infrastructure spending has to be by mandate, the money can be for no other purpose. If states don't actually have shovel ready projects, they get no funds. No shell games either.... meaning State A gets $5b from the feds for roads/bridges/etc... and then State A cuts its own infrastructure spending by $3B and gives the money to the public unions.

The States need to get their fiscal houses in order too. Bailing them out time and again only means those in more fiscally responsible states have to keep bailing out the irresponsible like Illinois and CA.

Also... any word on a budget from the Dems yet? It has only been three years since the Senate actually did its fucking job.

Onceler is not a shill. He is a moderate at worst and will be critical of the Dems. He is right that through Clinton/Gingrich the two parties would butt heads, but would get things done. Bush's first six years began the slide downhill towards more extreme partisanship. It escalated when Pelosi and Reid took over in 2007. It has continued becoming more partisan ever since.

We need to end the safe-seats in the House. We are getting far too many nutjobs from the left and right in office.

That said, it is very weak to blame the Reps in Congress right now without also looking across the aisle at the inept nature of the Dems and their ability to compromise. They said 'no' to the Reps plans just as the Reps said 'no' to the Dems.

I agree with every word .. except they should be embarassed. I'm not sure why anyone would expect them to be any different. I'm not sure why Obama ever did.

Additionally, we elect politicians to be leaders, not brokers. Even with the flawed thinking that republicans would cooperate, once it was proven that they wouldn't, he should have acted accordingly and pushed back from a position of strength when he had the House and Senate. When he proved himself to be weak, the left sat on their hands during the midterms, thus the rise of the Tea Party.

I agree with you that republicans would rather have this country implode than work successfully with Obama, but they have been that way since the day Obama took office.

Democrats are weak .. and even when republicans are in the minority, they still set the agenda.

As very sad as this is, it is very true. Thankyou for coming back, please stay around here.

what "transportation projects? Endless repaving of roads (already did my sidewalks, and repaved 2x).

Isn't this just more "stimules" ( adding debt for make work?) Sure it's obstructionism, some things deserve to be obstructed.
Correct me if i'm wrong but what CRITICAL transporation bills are being thwarted?

Annata, our infrastructure is failing, our transportation relies on automobiles, we are behind the times and we do need improvements and it isn't just repaying roads. Although, when you live in Alaska, it is a necessary evil!

Wait a minute... righties have been complaining that Obama didn't do anything worth talking about even when Dems controlled Congress and could have pushed through his agenda. Now you're saying they tried to ram everything down our throats for two years.

Wait, you thought Superfreak would have a consistent message?
