The 14.4 million member Mormon church is less 150 Latter Day Saints after a "mass resignation ceremony" Saturday in Salt Lake City. Whether it was the church's anti-gay marriage stance, mandatory tithing or the whole women-can't-hold-office-in-the-church thing probably varies from member to member, but the new ex-Mormons got pretty formal about exiting the church, meeting in a public park to sign a "Declaration of Independence from Mormonism." The social structure of the church makes leaving as an individual daunting, so this final ritual gave the ex-congregants -- who had gathered from areas as far away as Arizona and Idaho -- a moment of solidarity before they continue as "apostates" on their own.

LOL

And this is news why??? People leave churches all the time, just look at Obama. After 20 years of sitting in that racist Rev. Wrights church and being brainwashed, he left.

Wait... Wasn't there a thread about how "Once a Mormon, Always a Mormon" recently? Hmmm... Interesting how some of them seem to have found a "loophole" where the church lets them leave...

Of course all this nonsense about filling out paperwork, etc. is exactly that. If you truly don't believe all this filing crap is unnecessary and it won't matter if they want to keep you on the roles. Just stop going, and if they harass you call the cops.

I'm pretty sure somewhere there is a record that I was baptized Lutheran as an infant, and later again in the Pentecostal church my mother forced me to attend... None of that matters to me now, while those churches may list me "officially" as a believer, it's all just nonsense.

I was babtized as a Luthern also.
Ended up taking 5 years of catachism; because we moved and the new Church wouldn't recognize the 1 year I had done, at our old Church. (different State)
