Absolutely, I was a frequent poster at Whistle Stopper.com before it collapsed, and currently at Debate Politics.com combined for about the past 9 years. Now, no doubt there are others around that were there too and can tell you that half the shit that goes down here would be 'permaban' stuff. But, I understand that this section is a little more raucous. I also know about APP, but can't post in there, is there a post count or something to get in?
But as a conservative, you can fully expect to meet with friction from the liberals here.
No doubt, but friction I can handle, dishonesty in that friction is another thing. Outright baiting is also another thing...What good does that do the discussion? Take this thread for example, there are some 665 postings, and about 1/3 of them are actual debate back and forth, give or take, the rest are snide, snarky, vulgar bickering. What good does that do any debate? In the end it is a huge waste of time.
Try to take the friction - and some of the heat - in stride.
Oh, I do. Like I say good natured, even not so good natured, or heated back and forth is fine in politics, no problem. But look, you had one post in here attack someones mother, and another attack someones wife, with some pretty vile stuff...One was a conservative, the other was a liberal...What good did it do? Shit, y'all wanna do that crap, use the PM.....
If you butt heads with someone particularly unpleasant, to the point that they're inhibiting you from enjoying the place, use your 'ignore' button.
Yeah, I am not one to use 'ignore' function too much. I think everyone should have a voice that wants one, and I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt that whatever nastiness will pass, and the discussion can move on...
Seriously, this is the best forum I have participated on yet. There is no heavy-handed moderation, which means one of the trade-offs is unbridled exchanges that can get pretty hostile at times. Perspective is everything. Now, let's rumble!
Ok, I understand, you're a long time member. I'll give it a fair chance, and as you see, I can absolutely sling shit with the best of them, but I'll tell ya, I know this is the internet, but as most people do, I try to formulate my responses as though we are standing in a group of people talking. Now, I've done that as well, and it can get heated too, but a far different situation when the person your are about to insult may have had enough of the jabs, and punches you in the face...I've seen it happen. It put a pretty big damper on the party.
So, in conclusion, reset? I am all for it, let's start over. But if it is just going to be something that is meant to give a one way ticket for verbal abuse for no reason without reprise? That ain't going to happen...Agreed?
