Poet has been on this board for years under different names? For reals? Wow. Not that it matters but I had no clue. Out of personal curiousity can you share the other names?

Actually I believe now that I was wrong about that. But I was under the impression that he had been on this site for a very long time and got disgusted when an un-named poster here revealed a name that he used on another site. I believe he left at that time but later returned about the same time I started posting here. I sincerely apologize for my inaccurate remarks. Both poet and the board deserve better.

No worries. Thanks for the response. For better or worse we develop "relationships" with posters over time so when someone changes their name it makes "news". It's all good.

how about all politicians be elected at large within a state

they would need to get a certain minimum number of people to sign a petition in their favor and would represent them

with the internet it would be easier to do this and then each politician would have to state their position on matters

My requirement for any political party would be one that would adhere 100% to the US Constitution and take us back to the principles of limited government and individual freedom. Simple really

Human nature is human nature and you aren't going to change it. The Founding Fathers in all of their brilliance realized that. Unfortunately, progressives (and this includes republicans as well as democrats) think they are the elite because they were educated at all the good schools and know all the right things. They know what is best for the unwashed masses who are as you say "short sighted and selfish".

Well, let's look at what all of these so called "elites" who were educated at all the right schools got us?

We got Socialist inSecurity and Mediscam which have us $100 trillion in debt. That worked out well didn't it? And you want to expand it. Brilliant

We got the financial crisis and the housing bust which was created by all the brilliant financial wizards who came out of Harvard and Yale business school. That turned out well for us didn't it? It wasn't some short sighted farmer sitting on his tractor who dreamed up those derivatives.
