Why we are 100% screwed as a country

The math is the math as long as you are talking about paying off the entire debt at one time. But that is not how it works, is it? But if we look at reducing the deficit and paying on the debt of a few decades, it doesn't seem as scary and not as useful to alarmists and sensationalists.

I am one of those who hopes for the best and prepares for the worst. Perhaps getting to know people before you make blanket statements would help.

As for the Weimar Republic, that was hardly a doomsday situation now was it? It lasted what, 10 or 12 years? Not quite a survivalist situation overall.

The hyperinflation in the Weimar republic didn't damage nearly as bad as the deflation in the great depression.

Yes, imagine the president sending in federal troops without a request from the governor? The fact that they are not trained for such work could have compounded the problem, as Billy pointed out.

When the president declares it a national disaster or emergency it is then their lead and responsibility to perform as necessary to absolve or lessen the severity as much as possible and that includes securing the safety and well being of the citizens affected. Otherwise what is the point of the declaration?

Except 2/3 of Germans DIDN'T accept him. He lost both elections he was in.

Well, his ~40% of the vote put the NSDAP in first place, and he had conservative allies in the DNVP who would support his government as well. However, it's true that he never got truthfully elected in an election that didn't involve coercion.

Germany has only itself to blame. Those stupid Weimar officials decided to stick-it to the WWI victors by deliberately defaulting on its debts. Immediately after the Armistice, Germany was not in an economic crisis the way the allies were, and its currency was not at risk for problems such as inflation well into 1921 (which is when the global economy began to recover). That year, the German government began to deliberately tank its own currency by defauting on its debt payments, and in 1922 the Germany economy had completely fallen apart.

Bunch of stubbord retards.

The Treaty of Versailles stipulated that the allies had to be paid back in gold. The hyperinflation wasn't an attempt to default on their debts, as that would be entirely ineffective.

If people were stupid enough to lend us 70 trillion dollars, they fully deserve the inevitable default when we can't pay. This would've been a tremendously positive financial move for the united states.

Uh oh. Now you're being the ignorant fool.

Huge ifs, WinterBorn. And shallow thinking. I suppose all those people just committed suicide, eh? Did you see my comment about the disparities in population and facilities between disaster locations? Not to mention that over 25% of New Orleans adults did not drive and had no means of transportation. Lots of things could have happened differently but the failures of the feds to properly respond is unforgivable in my very best estimation.

Maybe people should stop relying on the gobblement. They got what they deserved. Failure from the gobblement on all levels (state, local and federal).

I am amazed that despite all evidence of the incompetence of government you still place your faith there

It was a called and designated National Disaster and everyone there did what they could. And I don't put any "faith" in anything. That is clearly a fool's game. Incompetence of government is exactly my concern and claim on that issue and many others. Fortunately incompetence is NOT the norm in government or most anywhere else but there are always going to be stupid people and you are obviously one of them.

yeah, stupid people like the ones that made this call....

Imagine that the vast majority of them are admin or logisitics, I.E. not trained for any sort of disaster relief. But you keep imagining Apple. It must be better than reality.

Out of 1,400,000 there aren't 250,000 who can help? Perhaps you want to rethink your post.

People were dying and the President is going to wait for the OK? If the governor didn't give the immediate OK start rescuing the people and worry about the repercussions later. Save lives first. As for training if they're trained to rescue troops in combat situations in jungles I'm sure they can handle rescuing people standing on the roof of their home.

Just do it!

I haven't the slightest idea......though I will admit I suspect you might be.......how far do YOU live from Legion?.....

To be honest I never knew who "legion" is or was. I do understand that he/she left before I came along here but most here are definitely in great fear of the concept of any return. You may be the manifestation of that return. Who am I to say and how do you plead?
