you sure post like Legion.....so tell me, what is it about "simple economics" that makes it likely 25% of blacks would be disenfranchised by requiring voter ID?.....even if most states didn't provide them free, are you saying 25% of blacks can't afford a $25 ID card?......
Simply put, we never have needed voter ID cards and we don't need them now. This is a admitted ploy by cynical rightwingers to make voting for the disenfranchised more difficult. End of story.

Apply for food stamps
Apply for medicaid
Apply for unemployment

So... none of these people can do the following...
Driver's license
Buy alcohol
Buy cigarettes
Apply for welfare
Apply for food stamps
Cash a check
Purchase a firearm
Open a bank account
Rent an apartment
Be admitted to a hospital
Get a marriage license
All of which require a photo ID... most of them require that photo ID to be government issued. So why not just get these 25% an ID. Get it done so that they can do all of the above and also strengthen the voting security. Year after year we hear about how hard it is to get these people ID's... let's just get it done. Obviously they are not working given that you need an ID to get a job these days. So they have the time. Now all we need is to get them the transportation. With the exception of rural areas, that shouldn't be hard given the public transportation available in most larger cities. Given that a majority of the poor live in inner cities, surely we can accomplish this.
