Marissa Mayer is new Yahoo CEO

I sure many people probably haven't heard of Marissa Mayer but she is young, attractive and extremely bright along with being the 20th original employee at Google. She's basically a rock star in the Silicon Valley and was named Yahoo's new CEO yesterday. From a political perspective she is a bundler for Obama and has hosted a $30K/head fundraiser for him at her home.

I believe when someone is running a good size company their personal politics mean nothing. Whether you are a Republican, Democrat or apolitical you are attempting to do what is needed for the business to succeed. However since this is a political board I'll ask this political question. Carly Fiorina, ex CEO of HP, and Meg Whitman, ex CEO of EBay, both ran for political office in California and both were attacked for making layoffs while CEO and sending jobs overseas. As a Democrat do you think Marissa Mayer would run Yahoo differently and not lay people off and not send any jobs overseas if she thinks that's what the company needs to do?

She likely would. There is a myth that running a business qualifies one to run a state or a country. It does not. Further if you are going to use your business experience on your political resume then the decisions you made in that business are going to be judged by the voters. Whether you're a republican or a democrat. No whining permitted.

Wasn't she CEO of Google before she left? Did she lay people of and send jobs overseas?

Yup. Who cares she might do as CEO of Yahoo from a political standpoint. Her public record though is fair game in politics.

No. There is no way she would left Google as CEO to be CEO of Yahoo. The CEO's of Google are right around her age. She probably didn't see an opportunity to become CEO at Google anytime soon which is why she left to take this challenge.

Isn't a big difference between Republicans and Democrats that Republicans really only care about themselves and Democrats care about the workers and the common good? So you don't think she would carry that mindset into a job?

You're right. She was a VP at Google.

To begin, I think that was a great hire by Yahoo. She is a very capable leader and may be able to turn that p.o.s. company around. She is smart enough to know that she will have to make cuts where needed to streamline the business. At a company like Yahoo... that is typically going to result in restructuring the jobs... getting rid of unprofitable divisions etc...

She seems to be business person first... if not... yahoo will continue to flail.

Well, since democrats never really walk the walk and only talk the talk, of course she will outsource jobs and lay people off. And of course all democrats will get right in line behind her just like they get behind Obama who is laying people off and outsourcing job.

The premise of your question is naive, boarding on child like
