Wait. Mitt Says "If You Got A Business, You Didn't Build It"?

Just last week? FOX and Friends clips one phrase out of an Obama speech and instantly it's crawling through the sewer lines of the right wing blogosphere and forums like a sewer rat, eventually landing on Romney's lap to repeat?

If you got a business, you didn't build that!

Seems like Mitt's dusted off the ol' Etch-a-Sketch and decided Obama was right!

"There are a lot of people in government who help us and allow us to have an economy that works and allow entrepreneurs and business leaders of various kinds to start businesses and create jobs. We all recognize that. That's an important thing.... I know that you recognize that a lot of people help you in a business. Perhaps the banks, the investors. There's no question your mom and dad. Your school teachers. The people that provide roads, the fire, and the police. A lot of people help."

Seems like all those people who claim there isn't much difference between him and obama are looking more and more correct?

Totally. Because two people acknowledging basic truths about the world means that those two people do not differ substantially on policy.

lol...I just got this reply on Twitter.

@howey_d @mittromney now don't b a donkey. Pay attention. Take it out of context & lose credibility

Umm...hello?

I guess what I still don't understand is was there some movement going on or maybe growing in the business world where people were literally saying and meaning I've accomplished what I have with no help along the way and did everything thing by myself? I'm not understanding the impetus to state the obvious that we need infrastructure, the rule of law etc. and to go out of the way to say don't feel special you who have started a business and done ok or well.

It all comes back to rich successful people not wanting to pay more in taxes. Obama says its OK for them to pay more in taxes because their success is built in part on public goods. Romney says they should pay less in taxes.

Yeah, great. But you conveniently left out the part at 1:55 where he reminds us that WE PAY FOR ALL THAT STUFF!!! Obama is making a feeble arguement to his low-information base in a desperate attempt to keep them from thinking too much. The whole insane premise is just giving the GOP grist for the mill.

??....why don't you pay taxes on your retirement income?......people pay taxes on their SS and other pensions.....

Even more proof of you ignorance.

I don't pay taxes on my social security, either.

Nor do I pay property taxes on my home.

Guess what? Even my fucking license plate is FREE!

DON'T THAT JUST GET YOUR PANTIES IN A WAD OF JEALOUSY?

that must mean that Bush was right as well? since his policies have been continued?

please, there is no basic truth of a dozen entities helped build a business. pure unadulterated bullshit.

I almost never understand what the hell you mean with your posts. Utterly perplexed almost every time.

I can only speak for myself but I completely understand why others belief their is very little difference between the two parties. On paper sure there is plenty of difference. In rhetoric there is plenty of difference. In action not so much.

Just a couple of many examples. George W. Bush and his need to reign in government spending rhetoric. Obama says we need to raise taxes on the rich but doesn't when he has a chance. We could go on and on about the drug wars and foreign policy. Once in office the differences start to melt away.

And THIS is what makes socialists, socialists........and democrats, democrats......freebies for them, while others pay the freight.....

though as vet. you may very well have earned it, but others have not.

What is 'free' for you, others are paying that bill.

This is not jealousy on my part, its just the truth.

Absolutely, and not only that 'we pay for all of that stuff', but the wealthy, and entrepreneurs, and successful in this world paid, and pay a lion share of the taxes that government uses for that infrastructure.

NOT the recipient class.

You're not aware that many of the Bush policies were continued by Obama ?.......try getting your news from other than the Huffingtonpost and MSNBC
Obama can't even get ONE SINGLE vote from his own party to pass his budgets....not one.

ALL.....ALL...ALL of the infrastructure in this entire country was financed by TAXPAYERS.....mostly businessmen and corporations and the well off.....the government makes no money at all....nada, zulch, zero.....

If you're ignorant of WHO is paying the lions share of those taxes, try googling.....its there for all to see.....

Oh cut the crap. If you are 100% VA disabled, yeah, you won't pay taxes on pensions, and most of florida stopped with the property taxes on mobile homes a few years ago, or you got a homestead exemption. Hell, maybe you're just a tax cheat.
If you are 100% combat disabled I salute you. You payed your taxes in blood. It grants you a certain nobility that you should NOT be rubbing in people's faces. I find it ironic that you live in a state like Florida, with a GOP state house and low taxation, paying NO taxes yourself, and bitching that the "rich" don't pay their fair share.

Howey, like most liberals I am proud that some small part of my tax dollars goes towards supporting our veterans, and I thank you!

What a shame that cons hate our troops so much. It makes me so sad. :(
