I've been working with some Chinese investors who have wanted to purchase property in the Bay Area (San Francisco). When it came to residential homes they would ask me about the neighborhood of certain homes. A normal question most people ask but what I came to find out is they wanted to know if there were black people in the area. One lady from Hong Kong went into contract on a home then flew out here to see it and then said she wasn't going to buy it. Too many black around the neighborhood. Crazy, I had no clue.
Really that is weird to me. I guess from growing up on long island, believe it or not the most segregated suburb in the nation, I always know what questions about the neighborhood mean. Here that has always been code for how white is it. My high school graduating class was over 3,000 kids, so really big. Two black kids. Amazing huh?
