Shooter was a former neurosciene PhD student?

According to the University of Colorado, Denver, Holmes was in the process of dropping out of the school's graduate program in neurosciences. School spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery said in a statement that Holmes enrolled at the school in June 2011. She didn't say why he was withdrawing.

The University of California, Riverside, confirmed to CBS News that Holmes graduated in 2010 with a degree in neuroscience.

seems likely to be true

give someone a gun and they kill people

give someone an education and they kill people

can we agree on the idiocy of both statements?

My position on guns, as a Liberal, is people should be allowed to own them and use them for self-defense. When a thief knows he may be shot and die trying to break into a person's home he'll think about it more than if his only worry is a fine or a few weeks in jail. The same applies to street muggings. Also, in both cases, B&E and street muggings, the perpetrator is usually a physically strong individual. The typical thug is not some emaciated person so, in most cases, have the upper hand to start.

Kudos for your position on this.

I think a lot of the problem is the disconnect certain elements of the population have with fire arms. It doesn't make sense to hide something that is legal. Ones view becomes distorted. Considering gun ownership is a constitutional right I think it should be covered in high school. A safety course. Let the students handle a gun. Discuss the pros and cons of gun ownership and the current laws regarding gun ownership. Take the mystery and ignorance out of gun ownership.

Back when we didn't have to cram every student with PASS objectives (or whatever it is in your state...after NCLB you got em) I would take three days at the end of the year and teach a gun/hunter safety course to our students. We covered the basics of hunters safety including thing like survival and doing ones best to avoid hypothermia as well as the safe handling of a firearm before, during and after the hunt. We looked at all actions like semi-auto, lever, bolt, single, etc. Sadly we can't do that anymore, not because of liberal restrictions but because of largely conservative requirements.

That's unfortunate. :(

This guy's a flunky. We need to shout this all over the place, and rub his failure in his face. Failure seems to be his way, both as a former human being, and as a former student.
