The latest controversy out of the UK Olympics is whether the USA team will dip the flag to the Queen.

Stanby for outrage no matter which way it goes.

LOL. Awesome. Why not? I'm sure the President wouldn't hesitate to prostrate himself before her and apologize for the revolutionary war...

;)

America will obey the protocol. Simple.
Although, having said that, out of all the countries in the march past only the americans behaved like oafs. Pity, because there were so many nice Americans in town. Quote from some Americans after the ceremony, ' Wonderful, we are all English today.'

To my knowledge we haven't dipped the flag since we refused to do so for Hitler in '38. Before that we did. Some folks are funny about dipping our national symbol.

Like I said, if we do or we don't, there will be outrage from some quarter.

You will always follow the protocol. If the protocol allows a country certain leniencies then so be it, it is still the protocol.
But, in all seriousness, who do americans think they are? Honestly. Have you never heard the expression noblesse oblige?

Or next time round they don't dip their flag to our pres or something equally silly.

These are the brits after all, they can hold a grudge.

That rather depends upon the circumstances. We are quite mature and understand respect for our fellow travellers. Perhaps it is time you learned a few things.

We kind of made a name for ourselves by defying protocol... it's what we're all about.

In all seriousness, we think we're Americans, and can do whatever we bloody damn well please, because no one can stop us. Lucky for you we believe in peace through strength, and are the stewards of liberty and freedom around the world. It would be really fucked up for you if we were tyrannical.

Noblesse oblige? I think that must be French for something, but we don't have many French traditions here.

Ever hear the term: Fuckofficus and Eatshiticus?

Why the hell would showing respect to a Nations sovereign leader when you are a guest in their nation and they are publicly honoring you be even the slightest bit controversial?

Anyone who has a problem with dipping the flag to the Queen is a moron.

You can be such a twit Dixie. We have adopted many traditions from the French, where the hell do you think most of the ideals of the Enlightenment came from that influenced our founding fathers political views?

Oh and Noblesse Oblige means that those who are priveleged and earn public office are obliged to lead and manage responsibly and conduct themselves honorably and not like some backward ideological nitwit.

So go readicus a bookus!

It is a constant source of wonder to me that Dixie writes so eloquently yet it is mostly complete twaddle.
