Is Millionaire a Real Estate Tycoon … or Robin Hood?

A Michigan businessman has bought up every piece of property--fully 650 separate properties--for sale at a Macomb County tax auction for a cool $4.8 million. He was the only bidder. And not everyone was happy with that outcome, especially those who had hoped to bid on single homes.

So what does Bill McMachen plan to do with all of that windfall real estate? Sell it, of course (and he has many would-be buyers). According to Fox News, McMachen expects to make about $2 million back on his investment, with many of the properties to be donated to needy families.

Oh he will. Most of the properties are ones no one wants and are completely fucked up beyond repair. I looked at several of them. Not to mention it's an absolutely shitty housing market in the area and frankly other than Sterling Heights and Shelby Township, no one wants to move here anyways.

And the point is? Leave the guy alone, and stop making judgement. Its no more a matter for the public than when my neighbor buys a new car.

Incidentally the police would probably object if it was crack he was buying. But the point is valid.

Dude, we're simply debating whether or not he made a good purchase. Yurt thinks he did, I think he did not and foolish wasted money. It's no different than me saying you shouldn't a Mercedes over a BMW.

Incidentally I like BMW. But that's irrelevant.

actually, he's wasting his money.....95% of properties that go through tax sale auctions are redeemed within the 12 month redemption period......and title companies refuse to insure title to the remaining 5% due to the risk of litigation from previous owners.....
 
So let me get this straight...while I was gone the biggest irritant known to mankind, the whiny obsessive-compulsive titmouse named yurt, finally got Onceler to the point where he took a break? So now we are up one whiny little titmouse who could be cremated (after his death of course) and used as a weaponized, rash-inducing powder, and down one Onceler?

Sounds to me he's a philanthropist willing to help fix a neighborhood and provide homes for the poor, underemployed and homeless. Since the homes are all foreclosed on, perhaps they'll go back to the original owners?

I applaud him. If only Mitt Romney would do something like that.
