Its Pawlente

I posted mine above. I think probably Portman, because he is the safest, and from Ohio.

Although... with the revelation that he now trails Obama by 9... it could be a shocker like Condi.

Romney has to crack the Tea Party vote, and he hasn't done it yet. If he gets their support, this is a much easier race to win.

I agree that the more desperate Mitt is the more likley we will get an out of the box pick and the more likley it will be designed to appeal to the Tea Party. Once her opinions are known however, I do not agree that Rice will be found to be be very acceptable to the Tea Party Wacks.

See, I believe just the opposite. I think the Tea Party has been unfairly stereotyped as mostly social conservative evangelicals, and I think it's a much broader and more diverse group, full of independent-minded moderates and libertarian types, with a healthy portion of evangelicals. I believe a 'non-politician' candidate like Rice, would be very appealing, and could pave the way for a new message and tone. She represents the voice which could amalgamate the factions of the GOP like no other choice.

Anyone who has been so associated with Bush as she has will kill Romneys chances.

I disagree here too. Bush was an extremely popular president with the GOP base. You guys hated and reviled him, and fiscal conservatives bristled at his less-than-conservative policies, but the man was still very popular. I don't see Rice's association with Bush hurting her with GOP voters at all, if anything, it helps her tremendously, because this is where her credentials come from. Without Bush, we wouldn't even know who she is. Now, she won't draw many Democrats over, but then... who would?

I have to agree and disagree. Bush WAS very popular with the Conservatives, he was for a very long time... now they have dropped him like a Dixiecrat dropped seggergation in 1970.

He became politically toxic and they like to pretend they never supported him or liked him. Just like 20 years from now you everyone will pretend they supported same sex marriage.

Again, your perception as a liberal is flawed. Bush is not a political factor anymore. He stopped being a political factor, really, in 2004, after he won his second term. (With more votes than any man had ever gotten at that time.) From that point, his supporters no longer needed to defend him and come to his rescue whenever the left railed, because it didn't matter, he won reelection and had 4 more years, then retirement. So people stopped defending him while Liberals continued to pile on the hate. Because of this, you think that somehow, you managed to change people's minds about Bush, but that's just not the case.

And here's another thing... of all the people in Bush's administration, Condoleeza Rice has to be among the most respected across the board by typical Americans, whether left, right or center, because she is a brilliant woman. I think even the libertarian intellectual 'Buckley' types who hated and loathed Bush, still appreciated Rice. I know Colin Powell certainly did.

Now I agree... the Anti-Bush Crowd are not going to like Condi Rice one bit. But how many of those does Romney seriously have a chance of winning over? Really? Condi is unique, and makes for an intriguing consideration for VP pick, I think. Probably the ONLY person who could garner the support of Bush Lovers and the 'Not-so-hot-on-Bush' Conservatives, the Women vote, the Black vote...The "I Hate Politicians" vote... Southern vote... should I continue? She has a great back-story, and her accomplishments are impeccable, as well as being a reasoned well-centered person in general, who knows her shit.

The way I see it, she makes an excellent choice. In fact, a GENIUS choice.

I don't think so. That's what got McCain into trouble. I think Romney is going to pick someone safe without a lot of baggage and then he's going to be his all on the economy. His surrogates will address other issues but Romney is going to bet it all on the economy. There's a good chance that could work too. If the economy in Europe tanks that coud have a big impact on the US economy and could give Mitt the edge he's looking for.
