I have not denied that the lowering of the standards allowed more racists to enlist. But you made the claim that that was the reason why the standards were lowered. And that is a lie. You have tried to claim that the military wants more racists, so they lowered the standards specifically to get them.
 
I served with a guy that had a swastika tattooed on his arm and had a Nazi and Northern Virginia battle flag on his wall. This was in 1989. No one said shit to him. I eventually bought him an Argentinian flag. I told him as long as he was collecting the flags of losing nations he should have a full set.

considering that our military represents us when it encounters others around the world, allowing and tolerating the hate mongers in the military is as self destructive as allowing the mentally and/or physically impaired in to the military.

The ones I knew didn't have tattoos but they were from Mississippi and liked to run their mouths...they were the butt of jokes and ragged on constantly for their racist crap.

The recruiters know about this and recruit them anyway. The T.I's damned sure know about them and typically allow them to bully up anyone that will tolerate it. And on and on it goes. Nip it in the bud before they are recruited or at least during basic training or as soon as this despicable behavior reveals itself.

Potential recruits are automatically rejected for physical limitations. It is just as reasonable to reject them for being scumbags. Some will surely slip through the cracks occasionally, but what we're seeing is the result of known haters and criminals being accepted in spite of their track records. Minimum standards of acceptable behavior is a very large part of tour military, Bijou. Some are pretty lax about it, however. Some damned General Officers are pretty shitty, don't you know?

I'm aware of the shitty standards, which got even shittier under Bush and remain so. Additionally, a culture of accepted racism exists, and new racists are actually created within that culture, according to Billy. Hence this thread and the justifiable outrage by decent people. Defenders and/or apologists and excuse-makers for this crap are the core of the problem and why it persists.

Outright and open racism is getting to be rare. More often it is not something they brag about individually. As soon as they act, however, they should be dealt with severely.
