and the gop wants to cut back on food stamps...hunger in america

Bullshit, Dixie. There have been plenty of discussions of how spending can be cut without taking the food out of the mouths of the poorest in this country.

For starters, how about defense spending?
http://relevant.at/wirtschaft/print...rt-new-market-research-report-published.story
"US defense spending had a total budget allocation of $705.6 billion in 2011, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.4% between 2007 and 2011."

We can cut 12.5% of the total defense spending and net a bigger gain than from cutting the entire foodstamp program.

Given the huge amounts of money spent on defense, corporate welfare, and other wastes, the fact that you are throwing a tantrum because some of us balk at cutting the most basic safety net is laughable.

Defense has already agreed to ferret out some $500 billion in 'waste' and slowed growth...Now with the so called fiscal cliff, another $500 billion is in the offing, cuts so deep that Obama's own defense chief says that it would be devastating to our national security...And you want more?

No, you can't have it. Find it in entitlements.

Yep, it also in the table had the average SNAP allotment for a family of 4 at $496.00, that equals $125.00 per week, still not bad considering that in order to feed their family they'd have to come up with about $25 per week to make up the difference. Also keep in mind that the rules now allow you to make 130% of poverty level to qualify for this...Which according to HHS in 2012 for a family of 4 is $23,050 per year, times 1.30 to qualify for SNAP equals $29,965. or slightly more than $600. per week, or $15 per hour for a single earner...That's pretty good if you ask me...

I can give you some real numbers from real experience.

When I was laid-off, I drew the maximum amount in unemployment. I was also drawing it from another state, so my check was roughly $100 a week more than what Alabama would have paid me. We applied for, and received food stamps. We drew $72 a month in foodstamps for a family of 3. We survived on what we got, but only because I had been making a good salary and had managed to save some, and because we have little debt or payments on items.

For a family of 3, we brought home (unemployment & foodstamps) less than $19k a year.

So we have our own people going hungry so we can maintain bases all over the world and keep fighting wars we shouldn't have started to begin with?

What you can't have is the most basic safety net for our own people.

maybe your savings had something to do with it, I don't know...The numbers I gave you were straight from HHS, and CBPP...So, which state were you defrauding for your unemployment?

Basic safety net, I have no problem with. Turning into a way of life, I do.

Were you drawing it from the state from which your employment was terminated?

Actually, no I wasn't. I was drawing from the state in which I had worked the most in the previous 12 months. (or perhaps 16 months? 18?)

I was working in NC when the layoffs came, but I had also worked in KY, VA, and TN in the previous year.

Really? A family of 4 receives $668. per month in SNAP benefits if they qualify, that works out to about $160.00 per week +/-.... Now I have a family of four, two adults, and two adult children, and our weekly grocery spending is between $150, and $200....And both myself and my wife bust our asses to earn that...Miserable?

Bullshit. If you are feeding four people for $150.00 per week, two of then are small children AND you are in a region of the country with very low food prices.

Here, figure it out;

:tantrum: Da mean ow wepubwicans wants to not pay for da food for da poor peopows! wahahahahhhhaaa!

The US currently has more people on food stamps than EVER IN HISTORY!

Yet... THIS is the sort of whining and moaning the left wants to do, while we are faced with yet another fiscal year of $1+ trillion in deficit spending. No explanation as to how we are supposed to pay for things, other than to gut the military and tax 'rich people' some more. No rationalization on just how much we are overspending on a yearly basis. None of this matters, they are like spoiled little 18-month-olds who need a nap!

Dixie, what about this? According to you, no one has starved to death in the US since the '30s, yet your buddy Bravo has chart saying different.

That is a complete strawman that is made up by the liberal left, set to demonize the right, and strike fear into those using these programs now cynically to garner votes and keep the "working poor" on the liberal plantation. Do you have anything other than talking points of the DailyKOS, and DemoUnderground to back you up, or shall we just go on your say so?

Do you even know what straw man means?

Here is a chart showing the average amount drawn in foodstamps by state. Not exactly huge numbers.

http://www.statehealthfacts.org/comparetable.jsp?cat=1&ind=26

According to this (links at the site) the average length of time drawing foodstamps is 2.5 years.

I thought we shot down the "Welfare Queen" myth back when Reagan was president?

Actually it ended under Clinton, with the introduction of Workfare

GOP Talking Points Dept. never got the memo.

More righty code-speak.

The sad truth about the Bigot Party and its idiot followers is that they're too stupid to grasp the notion that as their policies continue to create increasing numbers of poor people, those poor people will naturally seek the leadership of those that promise to help them in their time of need.

It ain't rocket science. It only seems like a sinister plan if you're a right-wing imbecile.

Kudos for a most awesome reply!

we are too busy 'nation building' in other nations

Speak of strawmen and a headful of hay, that would be you. It is the working poor who are on food stamps. Do the research!
