Gay couple sues United-Continental after allegedly finding sex toy taped to their luggage
Couple say they were ‘humiliated’ and ‘horrified’ as their baggage came down carousel with sex toy attached. United-Continental has denied any wrongdoing.
A gay couple in Virginia is suing United-Continental Airlines after airport staff allegedly removed a dildo from their checked luggage, covered it with a "vile"-smelling lubricant and taped it to the top of their bags before sending it down the baggage carousel during a trip last year.
Christopher Bridgeman and Martin Borger of Norfolk, Va. are seeking punitive damages from the airline for invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence.
"I was shocked, humiliated, embarrassed, horrified and confused because I didn't know what to do," Borger told the Daily News, describing how he felt when he first saw the bag.
Bridgeman, 34, and Borger, 35, claim that the incident occurred on May 21, 2011 when they were returning from a vacation in Costa Rica to Norfolk, Va.
The couple, who have been together for nearly nine years, had a 90-minute layover at George Bush International Airport in Houston.
They collected their luggage, passed through customs, rechecked their bags and then boarded their plane to Norfolk without any problems. However, when they landed in Norfolk and went to retrieve their luggage from baggage claim, they found the dildo, smeared with a "greasy foul-smelling substance" and "taped prominently" to the top of their bag, according to lawsuit. "To see all the expressions and how [people] were looking at us, we really felt completely powerless," Bridgeman told the Daily News.
The couple said it unclear why airport staff opened their bag and removed the sex toy. They said that baggage handlers may have removed the object because a man's name was on the luggage tag.
United Airlines said that it has conducted an investigation into the incident and found that there is "no support" for the couple's claims.

Obviously not too humiliated to get their names, home state and picture posted in the news. Another phony gay hate story, they are trying to run a scam on the airlines.
