So I watched the first night of both Conventions...

The first night of the Democratic Convention beat all nights of the Republican Convention hands down for excitement and enthusam.

I thought maybe I was just biased, but Joe Scarbrough, (a Republican) said exactly what I was thinking this morning on Morning Joe. I was wondering last week is conventions had simply just lost all excitment and thrill and were a thing of the past while watching the Republicans, but nope... The Democrats brought it back!

There are about twice as many people at the Democratic Convention for one thing and the people are actually watching the speeches and into them. During the RNC, while the non-headliners were speaking, you saw shots of the participants mingling and speaking to eachother, bored and disinterested in the speech. I dont blame them the speakers were mostly just giving an infomercial about themselves. Last night the participants were engaged and excited, listening to the speakers and cheering them on. THe speakers spoke more about the American Dream.

The Mo is on Obama's side.

there people at the GOP convention jazzed up...jeb bush's speech was one...clint's another...i have not watched all the speeches though

it wouldn't surprise me if the dem convention is jazzy...obama is not as stiff as mitt and it could be the gop convention was tailoring it to a more mellow beat so as to not make mitt look boring. also...weather was a factor in attendance...i believe.

probably, but i don't think people are really that excited about either candidate. given most of the media leans left or is liberal, i expect more positive reviews of the dem convention and as a result, this would likely help affect a bounce, but i expect it to be small and short lived.

I'd agree with that .. but last night was for democrats. He's going to need a lot more than just democrats who would normally go to the polls.

I also believe that a lot of what we're seeing played out at the DNC is as much or more about being against the Tea Party owned Republican Party as it is being for Obama.

Again, exactly as someone predicted. ...but they didn't predict you would claim Joe Scarbrough is a Republican. That was funny!

Did you not notice the line of school buses used to bus the crowd in? And I don't recall the people at the GOP convention playing checkers while the speakers gave their speeches. Looked to me like they were watching the person speaking, and I can only assume they were actually listening to the speaker. What people are "into" is not something you can tell through the tv. Of course if you wear special colored glasses, I suppose that's possible.

Yes, and you also had liberal media networks and camera crews, producers, directors, etc., doing everything in their power to convey such an image. Ooo, there's one dozing off... quick, get that shot!

I watched it too, and I didn't see anyone presenting or laying out any plans or proposals, like you expected from the Republicans. I saw basically the same kind of rhetorical speeches. Spoke about the American Dream? I thought the American Dream was dead, the jobs aren't coming back, we're living in a new age, times have changed, etc.? What did they talk about how it was a Dream and nothing that could ever actually come true? I guess I could see that... The American Fantasy!

LOL... Do you really believe the conventions are where people decide who to vote for? Like we've all just been sitting around undecided about shit, but now that we've seen a convention, suddenly it all becomes crystal clear? If this were 1955 and we had a good 30-40% of the country undecided, going back and forth between D and R, and in between... then I guess I could see it... but we don't live in 1955. The TRULY undecided voters make up MAYBE 10% or less. The other 90% have already decided who they are voting for.

This takes me to why I don't think you saw as much 'enthusiasm' at the GOP convention as opposed to the Dems. Most of us know who we are voting for and why, and the convention is just a formality. Maybe in elections past, we were more excited to hear the platform, interested in what was being said, inspired and energized by the message... this election, we already know we're voting for the candidate who isn't Barack Hussein Obama. Nothing else matters. Falling balloons don't impress.

I watched part of day one of the Repelican convention. I fell asleep. I watched part of day one for the Democrats and though I agree I saw more entuhsiasm I still fell asleep. Get my point? Both sides are just a dog and pony show in which the speakers are targeting specific constituencies with their messages. Nothing big there. The only ones really worth listening too are the Nominees. I found Romnee speech condescending and lacking in substance though he did go a long way towards humanizing himself. If the later was his goal he succeeded. If it was intended to communicate his campaign message.....meh, needs some work. Not enough detail. We'll see if Barry can do any better. He's certainly a more dynamic public speaker than Romney.

They were not in the audience because the tea party does not represent their interests.

I mean, really... that's what it amounts to! The Democrats, in spite of having two unfettered years of full control, where they could literally pass anything into law their hearts desired, and we are being told there is nothing they could do because of the mean old republicans, and of we just give them 4 more years to keep spending us into oblivion, things will be great!

When Obama took office, I was railing about the $12 trillion national debt... but Obama promised to reduce that... Bush was spending us into bankruptcy with his 'unjust wars' etc. Then, after failing to submit a budget that even his own party could support, our national debt went to $13 trillion... Then, another year passed with no budget, and our national debt went to $14 trillion... Then, yet ANOTHER year without a budget and $15 trillion. It just topped $16 trillion, and these idiots are proposing even MORE spending and stimulus... and STILL haven't adopted a budget! This is just fucking INSANE! Our already behemoth and problematic national debt has increased 25% in 4 years... and there is no indication they plan to slow down one little bit, in fact, they want to spend even MORE! The only thing they will mention is gutting the military and taxing the rich. Well, you can dismantle the military and confiscate every penny from the 1% and it wouldn't be enough money to pay for the kind of deficits we're ringing up! It's like a shopaholic who's maxed out all their credit cards on Rodeo Drive, shopping at Tiffany's and Bijan, while hanging out at the Beverly Wilshire... promising to make fewer trips to Walmart next week!
